I have been lurking around the site for a while and noticed that a lot of people are buying Panerai watches. Is this just a latest fad or is there something that I am missing?

This question comes up all the time in the fora. Just do a search if you are truly interested. I started one myself 
Once I bought my first I was hooked too. The watch has a beautiful simplicity and great presence on the wrist. Its very Distinctive. Different models can be used for pretty much all situations.

OP you should take a look into the PAM section of the Fora or perhaps look at the pics of the weekly wristies so you get an idea of what the craze is all about. I think with Panerai's you either love them or you hate them. but definitly check them out.
Another reason many like them is becasue N-factory and H-Factory are coming out with some very close 'super-reps' of these watches. you will see what i mean once you start looking into them

Bought my first one a little over a month ago, now I am hocked and have gotten a few so far. I have gen's watches and my reason for getting into rep's is because I lost a gen Breitling Bentley GMT in past summer in a motorcycle accident where it got total so I have decided to buy rep's this way (hope I never go down again) I will loose a few hundred dollar watch and not thousand. Right now my choice for rep's are Panerai, most have a clean simple look but awesome at the same time once you start it's hard to stop and I have found that this forum and it's members are a great bunch of watch collectors to deal with I have still learning and it's member very helpful.
When you get to hold one in real life you gonna understand what the craze is all about. Before I got to hold one I was thinking it's the stupidest watch ever and after getting all the reps I wanted I decided to buy one just to see what's this all about. Now my Pams get more wrist time than all my other watches ( AP's ROO , Hublots , Breitlings, gens etc. ) combined.
