Thought I would catch up over here, I've been posting on HF for a little while with this build, so for those that don't go there very often here's a run down of my new build, there are going to be a lot of pictures.

First of all I bought the case from Silix.
The strap came from an ebay seller and has gone through a few stages of ageing and abuse from me :frusty:

My Athaya dial arrived but had very shallow engravings which proved a problem for the style I wanted to go for.
I had planned to paint it in the faded red brown style seen in some vintages, but I couldn't keep the engravings usable after a few thin coats of paint.

The first attempt at reshaing the case started with the lugs.

Then I moved on to the side crease which has been slowly filed back.

Another attempt at staining the dial this time, thin coat of black matt then deep red in the hope it would leave residue i could work in to.

Epic fail again :frusty:

It was almost there but then some of the black came off.

This one was better until again the paint chipped off.

This is the last attempt, I went for a cream dial, two thin coats, each time scraping out the engravings while the paint was still wet with a needle. then I baked the dial for 10 minutes to harden the paint. The letter fill is from a black crayola crayon.

The radial burn effect comes from mounting the dial gently on to a dremel on a slow spin and dragging a brush with almost dry paint across it.

Some serious filing and grinding on the case now.

Sharpening up the crease between the lugs

a quick mock up with the dial and case

And finally I went back to the dial with some more paint and then lumed the indices which I then stained with coffee, I also added a bit of coffee staining to the surface of the dial making sure I gave it a coat of matt varnish afterwards to seal it.

Nice job. His dials are very hard to fill. It took me many times to get it right. I actually go over the letters with a needle after every coat to keep the fill.

Wax, paint, needle, wax, paint, needle, wax........... damn dials take forever to get right, but nothing looks like a Athaya dial for accurate font size IMO.

Really nice job there. ;)

Fitted the 6497 movement tonight, with a backplate on the dial the stem couldn't line up, without a backplate the stem lined up but the movement flopped around and was not held tight, I've fixed the gap between the CB and movement for now with a straightened then curled paperclip which sits perfectly above the silix movement ring and now holds everything in place nicely. It's a bit of a macgyver fix but i'll come up with something more permanent when the pencil hands arrive and I shorten the stem.
For now i've fitted some stock jackson hands and it's keeping perfect time.

wore it for a day and I love it, the strap needs to wear in a little, I've softened and abused it as much as I dare for now. I love how the light hits the plexi

IT's DONE !!!!!
6154 with subdial.
Case - Silix 6154 - completely reshaped and finished by me.
Movement - a stock 6498 that came with a previous jackson watch (may be replaced in the future with a molly depends on budget)
Dial - Athaya RP - painted and lumed by me (the lume's not great due to the heave ageing, and using crap ebay lume)
Hands - Athaya pencil with long tube and long tube seconds (which I had to file down for this one)
CB - Silix stock (may swap for Athaya thin display in the future depending on budget)
Strap - Ebay - aged, oiled, stained, re-aged, beaten up, softened, kicked about a bit, attacked with a soldering iron and sandpaper....by me. it's now really quite soft

So here's a lume shot, the ageing on the dial makes it look nice n' old, but it also restricts the light getting to it and because I only have cheap lume it's doesn't glow longer than a few minutes like this, it has a very VERY slight glow for an hour or so after but you have to be in a very dark room to see it.

Wow! Another very beautiful build!! The dial texture with r-burn compliments the brown indices perfectly! Just perfect!
