Hello all.
I have a AP RG Montoya inbound from Tony.
Very excited to get it.
I was wondering, the caseback is glass.
Has anyone ever replaced it w/sapphire crystal ?
Has anyone replaced the glass on any rep model ?
Thanks in advance.

It is 'glass'? uhh.. with over 1.5k posts, I'd expect something a bit more specific

Is it mineral? If you're wondering if anyone has replaced a crystal.. then yes, people do it all the time.. the most difficult part is sourcing a sapphire that will fit.. and will look as if it belongs there.

Before you start ripping apart your new watch.. I'd make sure that it is mineral glass, and not sapphire, already.. once you have confirmed that it is mineral, and is worth swapping out.. then take a measurement of the size of the crystal, and go online to find a sapphire replacement.. Ofrei has a wide selection of crytstals in various sizes and shapes.. my guess would be that this crystal is a very regular flat sapphire, which would be easy to source.

Is there a specific reason for wanting to replace the case-back crystal? Mineral or sapphire, it's really not going to be noticed. Considering the risks involved in popping it out and finding a replacement, I think that it would be a fool's errand, but that's just me.

Well,no need to have this thread.

So I won't start another thread I'm asking this here , is there a transparent caseback for the sec@12 ROO being made ? I would prefer to see the movement instead of the solid metal.

The Montoya model is the only normal-sized ROO with an exhibition caseback. You could always use that CB on another ROO, but why bother? The Montoya is somewhat passable because it at least has a semi-accurate rotor, whereas the other models don't even have that.

If you want an exhibition caseback and don't mind a larger case size there's always the Grand Prix: same movement as all the others but like the Montoya, has a custom rotor to give the movement a thin veil of legitimacy.
