Mods please move to flame free if it needs to. This is a bad week for me and watches. I'll start with this transaction first.

So I (think I) sold a watch on another forum. Quick backround on the buyer. He at hounded and hounded me a few weeks back on another watch I sold. Beat me up on the price, wanted special shipping to a 3rd party (he is in Asia/ I am in USA), and then after deal was made; he vanished. No big deal as this is the internet etc..

Fast forward to yesterday. He inquires about this watch and apologizes about the last. We go back and forth on the price and then agree. He wants it shipped to a 3rd party again (I say to myself, whatever, just pay me in full and I don't care where the watch goes) and a deal is made. He says great and advises he will send paypal right away. After about 3 hours and no payment I ask him if he still wants the watch. He comes back and says he is having trouble with his account and that it will only let him send 2/3 the amount of the sale and he is trying to "fix it". He wants to know if I can take the 2/3 payment to hold the watch (and not send it) and he will send the rest in a day or two. I hold off on a reply for a couple of hours while I think about it, and then reply not to send the money and that if it's still available when he has the money we can proceed then.

A minute later I get a paypal alert that the 2/3 amount of the money has been sent. A minute after that, he emails and says it's "too late" he already sent the money. He then asks for more time on the rest.

What do you think? Cut him some slack and wait a couple of days, or refund his payment and walk?

Refund and walk. I wouldn't have even answered him the second time around. This has all the hallmarks of a problem transaction.

You don't mention his feedback rating or forum history, but unless his reputation is stellar, I think you are glutton for punishment since you're even considering this.

I would have told him to pound sand the first time he flaked out. This person has proved untrustworthy once and is now acting sketchy again. His PayPal account may be limited (if that's really the case) for a very good reason. How many red flags do you need?

Obviously it's up to you, but if it was me I would refund his payment and tell him to not contact you in the future.

After the first experience I would never deal with the person again. Someone who vanishes wouldn't give me confidence enough to ship to a 3rd party nor ship a rep watch out of the country in the first place. If the watch is taken by his customs, is he going to be a big boy or rat you out to paypal?

I'm betting that he will claim he or the third party never received the watch and files a paypal dispute.

Refund, Run, and Block his email!!! Don't do it now... do it YESTERDAY!!!!!

This is going to blow up in your face - mark my words. You will lose the watch, the money, and maybe your PayPal priveleges.

Forgot to add: If he comes up with the full amount in a few days... RUN!
Too squirrely, and the third-party shipping is too fishy.
Choose your buyers.

Refund. Not worth the aggravation.

Good advice.

Refund and move on.

Here's my normal transaction...

Buyer: ill take it! Send PP info.

Seller: great, here's PP info...

Buyer: payment sent. Please send to...

Seller: Received, ill send you tracking when its shipped noon tomorrow.

Buyer: thanks!

Seller: as promised here's tracking... Let me know it arrived safely.

Buyer: got it! Thank you!

END of transaction... Simple and easy and that's how 98% of my transactions went down over the past 3 years.

Don't think I've ever needed to sell a watch so badly that I'd put up with this s41t.

Don't think I ever will.

Life is too short to deal with flaky buyers. Learn the red flags and always listen to your gut. It's usually smarter than your brain...

Sounds like this could potentially be a can of worms down the line, personally I'd refund and move on. No sales worth this much effort even before you ship

REFUND! Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Too many variables and too much hassle now and in the future.

If you're not doing it this way, don't do it.
