Hi,

I am in need of some help for spending 10-14.000 USD. It is for a friend who has no idea on watches, brands, options… he just wants to be told what to buy?

Here the basic guidelines.

It must be/have:

- MUST have a 2nd time zone indication, a GMT could also work, but GMT must be adjustable!
- steel strap, no leather
- max. 40/42mm as he has a small wrist
- sporty but elegant
- will be his daily beater
- brand would best more special, e.g. FRANCK MULLER then normal e.g. ROLEX
- no vintage
- not 2nd hand = not pre owned

He also would like to not only know, what to buy, but also why not to buy this model, we recommend!

Your help is greatly appreciated. Below an example!

Thanks, also for pics or links if you have ideas!

Dutchy

Rolex GMT steel with black ceramic bezel

Pro’s
- time less, but sturdy design
- functional, a bit dressy
Con’s
- it a rolex, most faked watch
- everybody has one

You need the second hand to show the watch is not cheap quartz movement. Maybe you say no second hand meaning no used watches? Only new?

Tell your buddy to buy 5 super reps and bank the rest of the money. He could also use reps to road test watches and then eventually buy the gen that he likes.

You can try Glashutte Original Sport Evo GMT. It's on bracelet and 42mm.

Reps, never! Cannot say that word when he is close by! He thinks my watches are gen...

Hahaha "no second hand..." Sorry, I thought you mean "THIS WATCH CANNOT HAVE A SECOND HAND!!!!" ::spits on second hands::

As for the stainless steel bands, almost everything is available with either/or I'd guess.

There are a lot of great watches out there. It is just hard to pick a watch for someone about which we know nothing. does he like blingy stuff or conservative? You can get into the $10K price range by just buying an all gold watch, but does he like gold, stainless? TT? White gold? Does he like sports watches, diver watches, dress watches? Colorful watches or conservative watches? Chronos or no chronos? Dual head watch, GMT hand, or watches with two separate dials? A brand everyone recognizes or a brand everyone may not recognize? If it is a person you know well, maybe you can add some ideas? Here are a few one could consider:

I like the VC too; I was going to say Reverso as well but he said he wanted a "beater" watch... not sure if the Reverso would be a good watch for knocking around (I know it was considered a sports watch initially but I think today it is definitely a dress watch). HOWEVER, I did see that the back of one Reverso model DOES INDEED exclude a second hand =) (to clarify, the initial post originally said "no second hand" and I thought it meant an actual second hand).

AP Dual Time? A little over the price range, but still so sweet.

The VC or Glashutte above are excellent choices. Im a Zenith fan myself, but not many bracelets.

Other options:
Maurice Lacroix Grand Guichet GMT <$4000

Breitling Navitimer World

Breitling Chronomat GMT (44mm is smaller version)

Breitling Transocean (mesh - no regular SS)

Jaeger LeCoultre (my favorites)
Master compressor GMT $8400

Master Compressor Geographic $10300
312x580-1.png

Master Compressor Extreme World Chronograph $15,600

Omega Aqua Terra GMT 43mm (chronos are under $8000)

Chopard has a number of GMT chronographs with bracelets available. $5000 neighborhood and up.

Given your criteria, the JLC models would be your best bet in my opinion, along with the Vacheron Constantin.
