DSSD Tight Bezel "Mod"

So I recently received a new BK DSSD -- lovely as you might expect but the bezel was very loose (and would noticeably shift laterally if you tried to rotate it clockwise). Rather than return it I decided to fix it, and while I was at it tried to make the bezel tighter, more like the gen.

I did two things: On the silver disc that sits under the bezel bent the little prongs upwards as others have noted on RWI, but also I also intentionally added some warp to the disc so that it would act somewhat like a spring, pushing the bezel away from the face.

These two things have led to a really nice feeling bezel, tight but turns smoothly. Next time I might add some silicone grease to see if that improves it further. Also I'll take pictures to document this.

Anyone else try something like this?

I got mine off no problem, trying to get it back on it bent like a potato chip. That Noob retention system is made to go on and stay there.

It was a real pain to get off. I taped the lugs and used a razor blade (not stiff enough) and then a sharp pocket knife (which worked after several tries). Next time I'm going to try removing the insert first (heating the glue with a hairdryer) and seeing if I can get to the retaining ring that way...

Ouch

Yes, the Noob factory are sadists, aren't they.

Better news though: I redid it with lots of silicon grease under the bezel. Now *very* tight (almost too tight but I suspect it will loosen up a bit). No longer feels so "metallic" a feel when turning it.

I bought one on eBay and it didn't take the bezel off of a spare noob DSSD case. Your mileage may vary. It worked on the Seamaster though...

OK, minor update: silicone grease (i.e. the stuff we use on gaskets) was too sticky and stiff. I tried white lithium waterproof grease and it seems much better. I think I'm honing in on a cocktail that will get pretty close to a gen feel (raised prongs, disc warp, and grease).

Does the dental floss trick not work with the DSSD?

Don't use the floss , first the floss is ok and the bezel tightens but after some time the bezel totally jams and can also become bi-directional!

thanks for this. i just got a dssd from trevor. popped off the bezel with a blade, bent the prongs a bit and its a lot better now. Took about 5 min total.
Still has some give so not sure what to do about that but a 100% improvement.

Its better to remove the insert and drill a pilot hole so that the retaining spring can be grabbed. Of course this damages the spring but it can be reshaped. taking the bezel ring off with a knife is dangerous and ruins the piece by scratching it and warping it.

Sounds like a winning idea. Any chance you could post a picture of where the hole should be drilled, and what size bit to use?
