I'm guessing this question has already been asked, but what the hell...

Why did Rolex decide to release a Sub in it's 2012 line-up without a date?

Is the no date model cheaper?

It's a throwback. New rendition of an old classic. Doesn't look bad, explorers don't have the date either.

They wanted to make a watch easier to rep. Think about it, no date wheel, no cyclopes. Those are two 'big' tells that rep makers haven't figured out how to get 100%. I'm not saying I'm going to grab one, but I can imagine there will be plenty of people who will. Look at the other features (pearl, lume, etc). They are looking much better for much cheaper.

I guess I'm stuck on the date window. Must be why the original Explorer never was to my liking. It's missing something without it I think. Still, could be worse. Could be a Tag.

The no date has always been about $1.300 cheaper. Personally, I don't like it.........gotta have the date.......don't need the cyclops but the date is a must.

The no date sub appeals to me simply because i dont like to look of the cyclops. So i can see why some people might want it over the dated version.

The rep makers will still have to contend with making a good pearl as well as that triangle in ceramic that they never seem to get right.

It is made for people who work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
For them, there is no concept of "Day". :D:

I currently prefer no date windown on my watches, for some reason I prefer simple faces at the moment.

The other plus is that it is one less thing to have to set when you get a watch out of the box, and one less potential way of pulling out the crown on a rep!

1. that stupid cyclops keeps mucking up the crystal with gunk that rarely gets wiped off around the edges
2. old people like me can't see the date anyway
3. watches are for telling time, not calendars

:D

They didn't just release it. There's always been a no date model. They even held the old case version over a couple of years due to demand.

When i bought my gen ceramic GMT in 2007 (before i lost my balls and had to sell due to divorce).

The people i work with, who all have high end gens belittled the no date as just a cheaper sub so i ruled it out of my selection process at the time.

On reflection having now spent a lot of time at looking at subs i think the no date looks better and i think the new ceramic sub looks fantastic.

Although 5k sterling seems steep but then they all are :)

On another slighty different point,i am not a lover of vintage rolex but i am very been looking at no dates with the creamy patina and have to admit i would like one. Anyone else like em ?

Date + no cyclops = sea dweller ( the SD, not the DSSD)

Best looking Rolex in my opinion

The 14060 has always been a tool watch designed for military use. The new supercase one is just an update.

Who needs constant reminding what day it is? I see it all the time on my phone and my computer. I like the balanced look of the no-date. Also, it's not just a Rolex thing, some of the most popular PAMs are no-date as well.. 111, 000, 005 and many more.
