Ok so I've just had some bad news.

I bought a watch from a fellow forum member on Friday 1st June, and I have just had an attempted delivery. The watch came from Holland (very fast postage).

When the parcel arrived, the packaging was opened. I refused to accept the parcel, but made the delivery guy open the parcel to see if the contents were inside. Some bubble wrap, but nothing else. Gutted. He took the parcel and have me a delivery slip with contact details on it, he also noted what had happened.

So, I contact the seller and he has sent it as an airmail parcel (cost €13) which has no insurance cover.

Need to wait until tomorrow until I can pursue it further with the delivery company.

Sounds like I'm out of pocket. Not happy.

So sorry to hear about that bud. It really sucks. If it was sent my most carriers there is going to be nominal shipping insurance on it. Was it expensive?

I know in the usa, UPS packages are insured for $100.00
Totally sucks bud. I know the felling however. Once I mailed a overnight to FL, USA for $8,400 Rolex I was sellling. The guy gave the UPS driver a fake cashiers check and a few days later of course I got it. The bank laughed, ups did nothing, and I was out of the cash. For months I was on the phone getting the run around and sooner then later I realized I had to take the lose. The bummer was since the buyer was so 'nice' I tossed in a Blue Roman SS Datejust valued at $2400 at the time. 2 watches I lost.........Makes me sad just thinking about it again!

The address he gave me was a empty lock boxed Florida Condo. It was a scam. The address at the time was vacant. By the time I got the check even the guy was long gone from there.

Crappy part about it was I sold the watch to put the money towards the down payment on a house :(..... The idiot was so good, he called me that night telling me he was out buying his child a toy that was hard to find, but wanted to make sure I got it off. Then he called me and asked the next day "while he was at the bank!" if he had the spelling for my last name correct for the cert bank check.

I'm confused. You sent the watch before payment?

Um yes, it was sent OverNight, Certified Check Only at pick up.
Buyer hands over payment, ups hands over package.

Well yea, I learned a lot of lessons from it. I felt like a idiot that I sent it. I personally never in a thousand years would think about printing my own fake bank check. I thought it was simple, express the watch, UPS confirms payment, I get check three days later. This went back a few years. It was my favorite watch and I did it to help the family. My wife felt so bad that a year later I was able to find the same one. There was only 3 in the world for sale and Ben Bridge in Honalulu HI had one. The Ben Bridge district manager gave me 20% off the new watch, and my wife told me if I ever resell it she'd (#$%$^#&%%$&$%^&^$&$^&$#%^#$) me!

Its a ss/RoseGold Rolex DJ with Black MOP, Roman Dial. Its my daily beater and I wear it hard. Its my favorite. And prob the only gen Rolex worth more then I paid for it now. The priced of Gold skyrocketed, and this model has gone up in value a lot. Its a RARE combo to find. I have never seen another on anyones wrist. If you see one let me know who it is, its either me, or maybe the bum that stole my first one!

Maybe when I'm old and gray Rolex will call and say they recovered it.

Sorry to hear about that mate.

Similar story with myself, I'm in the UK too and I paid $400 for a watch on here from a fellow member which was sent without ANY insurance or tracking. Almost 2 months later I still have nothing. The package was probably lost or stolen, and I am out of pocket by $400...still trying to get some money back :(

Sorry to hear about your misfortune olworthers.

Who was the delivery company in the UK? Just out of interest.

Of all the watches I have posted to various parts of the globe, strangely, the only one which went missing was the one I posted to Glasgow, which is about 40 miles away! It was sent Royal Mail First Class Recorded, however the Royal Mail still managed to lose it! With about £40 compensation I was still about £30 out of pocket. Nowhere near as bad as you but it still felt cr@p.

Hope you get some form of resolution to this.

The thing is, unless u are using some expensive postage methods, the post office (of some country) does not offer insurance on jewellery/watches.
And while some offer insurance, they request documents of the item to make the claim, which of course doesnt exist for a rep.

Yep, this is the big risk with this hobby!
