Yup. We ran with a lot of the same crowd, though I never actually hung out with him. Might have met him once, not sure, my memories of that period in my life are a little...hazy. But yeah, he was a wannabe peddler of lots of stuff, and even prior to that incident was prone to aggression and general assholishness. He pulled a gun on an acquaintance of mine not too long before the whole thing at the apartment, maybe even the same gun? I do know at the time of the murder he was pretty deep off into cocaine and xanax, so a psychotic episode would be a pretty plausible explanation of what happened.
Weird. We must know a lot of the same people. Like I said, small world. Lemme know when you make it back down here bud.
For sure. I'm always surprised at just how much of a small community the ATX feels like some times.

Back when LSD was more socially acceptable, society saw some very strange crimes. All it takes is the right combination of latent mental issues & the right drug to unlock them. Remember Charles Manson? Crazy stuff!

Eh...I'm more inclined to believe whatever ends up coming out of a toxicology report than what his on again off again girlfriend said. Smoking weed made we want to eat a lot of shit, a homeless man's face was not one of those things.
Another thing I thought of, could've been smoking PCP or embalming fluid. People lose it when they get "fried out."

They're now saying they think he was abusing bath salts. I saw an intervention special about a kid who was abusing salts. He was on the roof of his home with a "specially made flashlight" (he wrapped newspaper around it) because he thought some aliens were after him. However, the flashlight protected him. That kid was hallucinating all the time. That is some nasty stuff.

"bath salts" are just a kind of synthetic amphetamine, which is still legal in many places. It is labeled as "bath salts" and sold in head shops.

“He gave me a nice card on Mother’s Day,†Ruth Charles told CBS Miami about son Rudy Eugene. “Everyone says he was a zombie. He was no zombie. That was my son.â€
The woman said that she was horrified to see reports of Saturday’s attack on TV and cried for Eugene, 31, who was discovered lying naked beside a homeless man on a sidewalk along Miami’s MacArthur Causeway. Police shot and killed Eugene when he refused to stop eating the face of victim Ronald Poppo, 65, who was also naked.
Poppo remains in critical condition after nearly 80% of his face was chewed off, police said.
A sister of Poppo told WFOR-TV that she thought he had died years ago. He graduated from Manhattan’s Stuyvesant High School in 1964.
Eugene, meanwhile, may have been under the influence of an LSD-like drug called “bath salts,†according to authorities. Toxicology reports are due in about a month.
Charles told ABC affiliate WPLG that her son may have been drugged and then dropped on the causeway beside Poppo.
“When you are awake you are like a confused patient,†she said. “Whoever you see, you go and fight.â€
An unidentified girlfriend described Eugene as a “sweet, loving gentleman,†and that the attack “wasn’t him, that was his body but it wasn’t his spirit,†CBS Miami reported.

Why is it that the media can't do a simple wikipedia search about drugs when writing an article? This kind of sensationalism and complete indifference to facts drives me f@##ing nuts. This drug isn't even remotely similar to LSD, and none of these kinds of drugs in the vast majority of cases are going to result in a tragedy like this. Now there's gonna be a national outcry to illegalize mephedrone ("bath salts"), and it will be completely meaningless and ineffective.
