so many watches, so little time

Or money for that matter.

Greetings fellow chronophiles! I'm Mark. I'm out here in the deserts of eastern New Mexico. I have decided I need to step up my slightly dressier watch. My only current gold (job interview) watch is a gold Invicta diver. It looks good, but the bracelet scuffs easily and I'm interested in a brown leather band on gold.

To that end, I am trying to come up with a replica Longines Evidenza of reliable quality. I'm looking for a replica of either an L2.642.6.73.2 or L2.643.6.73.2.Not having much luck so far. Silix was showing a nice L2.643.6.73.2, but it seems to be out of stock.

I could also be persuaded to the Master Moonphase (L2.673.8.78.5) maybe even in a rose gold.

Anybody familiar with a reliable source for these relatively less popular and harder to find pieces? Any help appreciated.

Enjoying the forums a great deal. Happy to be here.

Thanks for taking the time.

Mark

I wish. I'm at work in Clovis right now. We're 30 mins from Muleshoe, Texas, about 90 minutes from Roswell.

It's dry, but I'm sure you knew that. :)

Thanks Chris. I've read the "newbie" threads and combed through the trusted dealers, but Longines doesn't seem to be a popular carry and the Evidenza is really not on the radar. I'll keep asking/pestering, but I'm starting to run out of ideas.

Thanks again.

Welcome Mark. You are right that Longines is not a very popular name in the rep world.

There are 2 key reasons behind this:

1. Those of us that love dressy watches are in the minority. The makers tend to focus on sporty watches, as that's what sells these days. There are some great dressy watches available, but they are few & far between, sometimes difficult to find info on.

2. Longines gens are actually quite affordable. Almost anyone can afford a gen Longines, even if they had to save for a couple months. I own a few gen Longines, but I looooove to buy rep Patek's, AP's & AL&S.

Now as you stated in another thread that $300-$400 is out of your price range, AND you live in CONUS, I would 100% direct you to Stan @ WBK. Go check out the TD's, & send a PM telling Stan what type of watch you're looking for. Not only will he give you a great price, but he is also CONUS, he backs up his products with a quality guarantee, etc.

Also, check out this thread. I know these watches may be from extremely high end brands, but these are great reps @ a bargain basement price.

Remember, you need to add in the cost of an aftermarket strap on top of whatever you pay for your rep. The rep straps are mostly all crap. There's nothing that screams "rep" on a high end dress watch than a shî+ty leather strap. If your looking for a good CONUS strap maker, I'd recommend Big Chief.

Again, welcome to the club, & enjoy the hobby.

Thank you much sir! That link to watchden looks really great.

I also hear what you're saying about the band. A cheap band looks cheap and wears cheaper. I've had plenty of cheap leather come apart on me.

I'm not really particular about brands here. I'm not trying to impress with names, but I have a look in mind that I just can't seem to get over the counter at local department stores.

The only gold case/white dial/brown leather band I own at this point is a $10 Deitz that I purchased over the internet. It's actually a pretty good looking little watch, quartz movement, okay band. But it's not durable enough to wear with any regularity, so I'm on the hunt for something to wear that tells time and looks nice enough to wear with dress clothes.

I am also kind of interested in an actual mechanical watch. There is little argument to be made for buying such a watch except that you like the idea of a mechanical watch. Let's face it, these days watches have been relegated to the arena of fashion accessories in most cases, given that most people carry a cell phone with an incredibly accurate clock on it and quarts movements have gotten very, very reliable and affordable. I recently purchased a Seiko and an Orient Ray to supplement my Invicta diver. Mechanical watches are a blast.

At any rate, thanks again for the tip. I'm leaning that way.
