I know alot of you like to celebrate today (some call it the begining of summer) with Bar B Qs, get togethers with friends and family, and getting drunk. Which is cool and have fun everyone.

But please take a momment, infact take a few moments today to remember those we've lost, have been injured in war, missing, and still suffering today. If you see or know a solider give them a hug, buy them a beer, or dinner and most of all just say Thank YOU for all you've done for our great country. Its all those that have served that make your life possible as you know it and without their service you would not be enjoying the freedom you do today.:sub4me:

Indeed, this is a time to reflect on the freedoms we have and the so many sacrifices that men and women have given to protect them.

We should thank the active and reserve soldiers every day of the year.

This is a day for remembrance, and even though they're gone now, my father and both my grandfathers fought in the World Wars (I and II) and I remember what they told me about war.

I thank them for their service and wish we could say there will be no more wars. But we can't, I'm afraid.

Thanks for starting this thread. I posted this elsewhere on the forum.

I agree guys while this is a great time to spend with loved ones relaxing at a BBQ.

Please recognize the enormous sacrifices of our fellow soldiers. One of my closest friends left for I believe his 7th deployment for 9 months as a fighter pilot with the marine corp.

While we enjoy the good life he is away from his family and kids and with one due in September that he won't be around for.

To all our brothers and sisters serving I salute and appreciate you :)

THANK YOU, sub, for the thoughtfulness regarding the meaning of Memorial Day. As a Viet Vet, I know only too well the feeling of "invisibility" a lot of my fellow vets experienced when they came home -- to nothing. Today's soldiers get the respect they deserve; and believe me, wearing a uniform isn't always an easy thing to do because there was a time (when I was young and uniformed) when GI's didn't get the respect they deserved from the general population -- not just from radical anti-war protesters. I can remember times when fathers told their daughters they didn't want them hanging around with any GI; I can remember a time when I've been ripped off by civilians because I was a GI. I mention all this because I want people to know that things weren't all hunky-dory with being a GI. A little history is need in order to appreciate just how far we've come as a society when dealing with our veterans. As one who remembers, to this day, whenever I see someone wearing a "Vietnam Veteran" baseball cap or other clothing articles, I still walk up to them, shake their hand, and tell them "Welcome home, brother." Point of all of this? It's important to remember those who served and to treat them with respect. It's what Memorial Day (or "Decoration Day" as I knew it growing up) is all about.

I love that movie. I cam across that movie by accident and did not know anything about it. After watching that movie, I recommended it to all my friends. I hope they all enjoy it like I do.

Very powerful stuff. It's an HBO product. May be Kevin Bacon's best work.
