Most of the time the lume application by the rep factories are as sloppy as it can be.
Im wondering if it is possible to scratch those overlapping lume off the edges of the markers with a sharp object? (e.g. screwdriver).

Will those lume goes off like paint or will they peel off together with the rest of the lume?

The best way to make it factory is to remove the indice and use a solvent like acetone on a qtip and wipe the indices edges down, if u do it on the dial it can drip and or touch the dial and make a mess of things ,, if u need help with this lmk i will help guide u , its time consuming but not hard

I have cleaned up the edges of markers with a small screwdriver before. In my experience, it has just turned into a powder, and just blow it off. But if you want to do a professional job, do as rbj said.

Just remember to scratch lightly, quantity over quality here. If you try and take off too big of a chunk at one time, you might chip off more than you'd like.

well what u have done is great if it is just one indice and a spec but if u need to do them all , it is best to remove the bad ones and proceed ,, if not u will probably end up screwing up the dial and have to spend more money;)

^ correct! It was only 2 or 3 indices, and the flaws were not terribly close to the dial. Just gotta be careful

if u are good, just twist a qtip up after puting it in acetone and then slightly brush it around the top of the indices and it should make it like u wanted, but do not let it touch the dial :)

How do you actually take the indice off, and glue it back accurately?

I might try this method first since that isnt really a lot of lume that overlapped the edges :)

Ultimately, I just found out that i'll have to wait till my rolex caseback tool arrive, before i can try anything.
I tried to open the case back with the rubber ball (which was closed with the same rubber ball), but couldnt get it to unscrew

I hate rolex casebacks. I also occasionally use scissors to open mine

very easily, u have to uncase the watch , remove the hands and dial, then use a regular sewing or straight pin and from behind the dial u will see usually two holes which is where the indice is seated, push in these pin holes from the back, they will move upward from the front, then take a small number 1 tweezer and remove ,, it sounds easy and it is , the hard part is putting dab enough glue to reseed the indices ,, im doing a PO right now, it was ent with all but 3 indices still on the dial, u can use gel superglue preferred by me , use a toothpic and put a dot on each pin h0le for the indices and press down, do not, i repeat do not glob the glue on or it will make a mess, hpe this helps ;)

I remove them and soak the markers in acetone a few hours. The lume is usually dissolve and gone. Putting a bit of glue under the marker on the pin hole is braver than I'll ever be. You never know how it can react and squeeze out the sides. Even the slightest bit can ruin the dial. I glue them in from the back, and they stay firm. Thin cement or CA will get sucked down into the hole the pin is in through capillary action.

your welcome, there seems to many that doesnt know this ,, there are many mods many can do themselves, i will help out more and more, i used to be a foundingmember of this and other forums, unfortunately i got really sick with throat cancer and a heart attack , so i had to leave for a while, but i find myself keep coming back as of late, the passion never left me, ,, it is very nice to help people make there reps superior and that is where i was differitientated, boy the watches have gotten better in some ways but worse in many ways, it seems now cosmetically they got 50 percent better but where the money is mechanically it has gotte worse, , it amazes me still ,, i have alot on my mind of all this so called new and improved ,, it will come up soon ;)

this is really not good advice for a beginner , what if the indice is plastic with a chrome plating, well then u have a mess, the chrome or paint will peel then u have to rechrome / paint the indice ,, i have seen too many indices bubble by soaking ,, u are better of by dropping acetone on the lume n the indice once removved from the dial and then scrape the lume out , ;)

Guess I'm lucky and have yet to come across that problem.

Yess, a better method than scraping those indices out when they are dry and hardened.
Cheeeerz!
