Ok, that lume mix is pretty crazy. Can I ask what equipment you use to do your lume jobs, and more specifically, how do you keep the sharp edges on these applied markers?

again, thanks to all for your support,

next build end of this week a Sultanate of Oman 1675 GMT Master with a rare original blue insert,

Ok, that lume mix is pretty crazy. Can I ask what equipment you use to do your lume jobs, and more specifically, how do you keep the sharp edges on these applied markers?

No mystic, you will do the same for sure,
no specific equipment, just very thin needles like oil pics or saving needles, its just a matter of product viscosity/dilution and only capillarity deposit effects, probably a little skills (like all 3 years old ) or, much more a matter of practice

Using fine oilers at the moment, so appears that I just need patience, practice and a steady hand. Do you use a single layer of lume on the dial, or multiple layers? How long would you say it took you to do that dial?

usually, 2 or 3 layers, depending of the volume of lume products, binder and thickener like color pigments

you need to do tests, also consider acrylic based product shrinks

sometimes a dial is done in one hour, sometimes it takes more time, depending many factors like room temperature and products used

I think what I can learn from this is that patience is the key.

Lume looks like it has been done by a 3 years old, but other than that it looks pretty good!

Mate, learn your subject before you critique people's work. The lume is perfect and RA is one of the best in the biz. In fact, when it comes to vintage GMTs he IS the best the biz. The 1680 above is as good as his GMT work. As has been made clear the lume is supposed to look like that, an effect that is very hard to master to the extent RA has.

Thanks Col to re centrate the debate,

One thing for sure is when RolexAddict speaks, he knows the truth about those watches. He only builds the the absolute best GMT vintages.
I wish I could afford to have him build one for me.

thanks KBH, I have already seen and followed many of your DJ variations and more !
great jobs !

The lume looks like it was done by a fifty three your old with 33years of skill and experience behind him.
Absolutely Stellar work and also kudos on the end result - Full marks for this one :)

Can you imagine what a re-lume would look like if you ACTUALLY did give it to a real three year old to do LOL

I am in the market for a vintage birth year gen. I have seen dials and hands that are crumbling, puffy, and mis-shaped. I have also seen dials and hands in practically new condition, so there really is no standard for what condition a vintage gen would be in.

To say this looks like a 3 year old applied it just shows that you haven't seen any gens, or that you have not seen enough. Either way, you obviously don't have the experience to make such a comment. No disrespect meant, but definitely be careful before making a comment such as that. In this case you were wrong...

Very true. I think there is a difference between flaming someone for making a "foot in the mouth" comment and respectfully showing someone how they were incorrect or misinformed. In real, face to face conversations people are polite so it's good to maintain that feeling on the boards. We are all in this together! JMHO

Even Gens have uneven lumes, notice the 1oclock:

RAs is correct for the "dated" lume job look.

Nice Job RA!

The REAL Challenge is to get that matte fuzzy dial look of the gens...

EDIT:

Thats an AWFUL JOB RA! you forgot the white gold surrounds like the gen. (sarcasm)
