I always wondered if the "gold" plated reps were worth buying. I would imagine the plating would peel rather quickly.

Any experiences?

Thanks.

depends, if its a daily wear, id say no go, but its really the band that sees the most wear and tear. If its a dress watch i say go for it.

Just make sure you wash it with soap and water after you wear it. This will prolong the life.

Wowww that looks surprisingly nice!!

From my personal experience, I've ended up just completely disregarding any material besides ss.
Rose gold, gold, pvd even make most watches look amazing but with sacrifice in longevity or overall quality.
Maybe I just had bad luck.

SS all the way!!

I have about 70 watches, more than half in gold. No any problems at all. Some are 3-4 years old, wear 'em often, and still no problems.

I have negative experiences with most of the reps.
Gold coating just fade... Also careful with salted water

There are accuracy issues with most gold watches i've seen. One of the biggest giveaways is the weight. Try on a GEN Gold Rolex and you will see.

I had a vintage gold rep a few years ago that I absolutely loved. But the gold plating wasn't very good. So I sent it to a company to have it plated. They had their own watchmaker who pulled it apart and then they plated the individual bits and pieces. It came out amazing. And the cost, which unfortunately I can't remember exactly, wasn't very much. Maybe less than $100. There are many companies that offer this service.

I tend to avoid gold replicas, since the weight difference is such a tell, and I'm paranoid that a bad scratch or ding will reveal the base metal.

I last year plan to buy a GMT Master II Gold and Black with rolexrolexrolex. But I'm scared that the paint would fade off and it is awful if fade off. I mean the whole watch would be completely wasted and put it aside since we can't wear it.

No problem with my RG tourby so far (but I don't wear it too often)

I have a full gold gmtIIc, and never had an issue with it. If I did, I'd probably just have it re-coated.

I avoid the gold toned reps. I have a few two-toned ones though, I wear them sparingly, and I always wash them off with soap and water when I am done wearing them, so I have not had any problems.
