How long will it last?

My physician has traveled to China several times and told me that he has bought several replica watches. His take is that they only last for a couple of months before they stop working. Especially if they have been dropped.

Has anyone had this experience with Chinese watches? Are the watches available form the dealers on this site of a better quality than those that can be purchased in person in China?

Almost exclusivley the reps our dealers sell us here are leaps and bounds above what the general, drop is shopper can find in China....like Canal St. NYC, the street rep is pretty much junk, however the product that IS availible to us will blow you and your Dr.'s freaking mind....

I bought a crappy rolex in chinatown once and it lasted me 8 years. I bought a cartier from the same person and it lasted i think 5 months.

A serviced clone movement (6497/2824/2836) can last you probably 5years before it needs another servicing like any gen watch.
I dont know bout the A7750 thou.

I have had some of mine for atleast 2 years; no problems yet (knock on wood).

Also, -if- there is a problem, it usually can be repaired (to better than shipped condition) from a watchsmith on the RWI board for less than $100.00. Now try that with a GEN.

Thanks for your replies. The watch I bought in China is doing OK. It loses about a minute in a day and a half. I just reset the time and not worry.

I know that the Reps I have seen on this site look better than mine. I only paid about $50 US in China. If it lasts a year I will be happy and will then buy one from one of your trusted dealers rather than spend more money repairing this one. I am a big fan of the Rolex GMT Master Red and Black bezel because of the history of this watch.

I am almost inclined to buy a genuine used one, if I can convince my wife, but I am not sure that the real thing will keep time any better than a good rep or last any longer before requiring an overhaul.

This is the question about replicas.
Since they have not a true quality control the result is not either reliable or uniform. It is a little lottery, but a very good and cheap lottery with a lot of good prizes...

You can always repair or replace the movement if you like the watch itself enough. The only problem is that it might cost more than the watch cost. But, if you buy a better quality rep like the ones our dealers sell then it should last as long as a gen with servicing.

On a rep though, you may have to do some extra waterproofing and QC after you receive the watch in order to make it go the distance. I've received reps with no gaskets or no lube on the gaskets and every one has been able to be opened with a rubber ball. On my rep rolexes I can screw the back down another 1/4 turn with the correct rolex case back opener (compared to the rubber ball).

Even If I had a real Rolex I don't think I would wear it to swim or take a shower or a bath. It's not that I don't believe that they are really water tight, but why would I want to do that? I also take my watch off at night when I sleep.

Because its a diver watch lol.
But seriously I would not do that too. People will either think its a fake (thats why i dont care) or im just farking rich. :biglaugh:

Because sometimes there isn't a safe place to leave your $5,000 Rolex at the Pool or beach. Better to leave it on your wrist.

Good point about leaving a $5000 watch at the beach. I wouldn't take a real one or a fake one on a vacation in Mexico. I read in the paper that there are kidnapping gangs who look for tourists with expensive watches to kidnap and extort money from their families. If they figured out you had a fake one they would probably just kill you.

Especially in such case you should wear it for diving so these gangs will also think it's a fake :)

I also wore my gen SD for diving when it had a broken clasp interior, just a bit more careful...
