Why a Gun forum on a Watch site?

For some obscure reason there is a forum for guns here.

I never bother to go there, but since I always go into "new posts" I do see some activity there.

The other day I even dared to venture an opinion there. It did not go down well.

Here is a response:

QUOTE

Hmm, did anyone responding here even bother to read this-

http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/ann...php?f=202&a=21

The RWI Gun Safe Forum Guidelines The purpose of the RWI Gun Safe Forum is to provide a place for firearm owners and shooting enthusiasts to share and discuss one of the human male’s favorite topics…GUNS! We (the RWI Staff) know that firearms can be a very volatile subject, especially with such a large international member base. With that in mind, we want to let everyone know that this forum is NOT for the discussion AGAINST firearms. If you personally are against the private ownership of firearms, we respect your position but would politely encourage you to steer clear of this forum. Political topics are allowed, but ONLY within a very narrow scope. If there is some sort of pending legislation (pro or con) that your fellow enthusiasts should be aware of, that can and should be posted. However, discussions that devolve into attacking a particular political viewpoint or related topic will not be tolerated.

Being former .mil, as well as .gov/.le I have witnessed many abuses of our civil rights in this country. I believe in and stand for ALL of the US Constitution, not just the bits and pieces I agree with. If you feel that I want to put us back in the dark ages, then so be it. Neither my family or myself will EVER be victims because others believe that everything will be OK if we just be nice and give the man what he wants (and hope he goes away). To blindly believe otherwise is foolish.

UNQUOTE

OK.
So we have a sub forum in a watch forum where only one opinion about ....wait for it...GUNS ... is allowed.

I ask myself why here?? Why not set up a separate forum elsewhere?

What is the relevance to watches???

That particular forum is in a sub forum for varied other interests: golf, tobacco, wine, etc. Its purpose is to provide our members who share those interests a place to discuss and share. I personally don't play golf, smoke, or drink, so I don't frequent those particular forums. There is no relevance to watches, the relevance is in the members. And since those forums seem to have good activity, I would say we are providing something our members want. If you have no interest in it, simply avoid it. Simple enough.

The gun subforum was created after some people (me included) argued pics of guns had nothing to do in regular threads. Now people who don't want to see/hear about guns just avoid going there. :)

or the Burbon club ;)! The forum is a place where us watchlovers can talk about anything with other watch enthusiasts, I don't see there being a problem with having a sub-forum for people who are also discussing guns. So what if it pops up every now and then on the 'new posts', it's not as if you HAVE to click on it. It's not as if there's a lot of gun-law policies being discussed either, it's mostly guys showing off a revolver or two. I'm not particularly interested in guns myself, but I can see how enthusiasts of mechanical watches can be facinated by them... Anyways, just my two cents.

Ive noticed a few watch forums also have sub forums about cars, cigars, and guns. I guess thatz just the normal stuff guys like: chicks, tits, guns, explosions, exotic cars, and expensive watches :)

Are there not several other sub-forums unrelated to watches? I find it best to simply stay away from the forums I'm not interested in. I think a broad variety of sub-forums is good and gives us something else to interest ourselves in whether it be movies, guns, or mammary glands, other than just watches. I do own a handgun but don't consider myself a true enthusiast so I stay away from it and leave it to the expert's.

The beauty of it is that we have this sub-forum, where one can freely venture an opinion although the topic of guns will tend to get heated, even in a flame free zone.

For some reason I couldnt get your link to work.

There are a bunch of seperate sub forums. Theres sports which has even less to do with watches than guns. As guns are also true pieces of work I believe members could talk about it freely in their gun safe. It also allows RWI to get more members under one umbrella. I enjoy reading and partaking in the gun forum section because there are very different takes on guns in different countries, while japan wont let their citizens own one, someone in america with proper licenses can own all but a nuke basically. Its fun and if it doesnt float your boat theres plenty of other very interesting articles! Thanks RWI for supporting freedom though:)

Hmm, so the subforum (that I can see) goes back as far as April 2010 and you just now have an issue with it (and you have been here since '09).

Sounds to me like you have your underoos in a twist because you posted an unwelcome opinion in and enthusiasts area that plainly spells out that if you don't agree that you aren't welcome.

Just another idealist that isn't happy because his opinion wasn't accepted/bowed to like he thought it should have been.

Tell me, do you drink, smoke, have sex with animals, or anything else that others might consider deviant/aberrant behavior? Well, you have a right (in most cases) to do this as well, but I won't be sticking my nose into your personal business and such telling you that I don't agree with it. Personal rights go both ways as long as they don't cause undo harm to another.

If my ownership of firearms or anything else while I live THOUSANDS of miles away from you keeps you up at night you may need to get in to see a professional.

And before you even answer the last question on sex with animals, that subforum will not be created. Just sayin. Carry on.

+1 to what tall, dark & clanky said.

Guns seem to be a topic of interest for quite a few people. I believe the intent was to create an area where gun-related topics could be discussed without forcing the memebership at large to hear about them, if they wished not to.

To each their own, I suppose. I personally find the "alternative" sub-forums (Nick, Brandon, Paul, Phil, just don't even start - you know what I mean!) very informative. I used to occasionally enjoy a cuban cigar, but since joining RWI and LISTENING to some people with more experience, and LEARNING what I could from them, my level of cigar enjoyment has risen to near - Clinton proportions.

But I digress....as usual.

Out of curiosity, if guns don't tickle your fancy, why even poke around in that sub-forum?

Pull up a chair, grab a smoke, peruse the Katy Perry thread, pour a nice stiff drink....all leisure activities enhanced by "non-watch" sub-forums. Or find a laugh or two in the humor section, another "non-watch" forum.

I think RWI has to be my favorite place on the interwebs...because it's so much more than "just watches".

Just my $0.02, though. YMMV. ;)

Killjoy.

IMHO I didn't see anything that could be regarded as "flaming" in your post.

In fact I thought it was a well thought out and constructed post.
