So I wanted a 31m DJ for the wife. Found it in the sales and picked it up.....one problem
DJfloral.jpg

It is 36mm. I know the style is big but the little lady has a little wrist, the 33mm j12 looks perfect, the 38 was huge.

Can I place this dial diretly in a 31mm rep ? And vice versa, can swap the dial from a 31mm right into this one and keep this for myself ???

I was hoping you would chime in. So this one can be converted to a nice mans piece with a new dial. It is fairly accurate it seems minus 18k stamp on the back. Are the 31mm versions repped this well ?

Can't say that I've actually seen a mid-size DJ rep in person, although I know Joshua has them on his web site. I'll have to say they look nice in the pictures and are probably closer to gen than the ladies. The ladies are a little too fat compared to gen. But, DJ's are so commonplace and there are so many different models, I can't imagine anyone ever noticing any difference between gen and rep.

Changing dials in that one would be pretty simple. You'd just need to specify what movement is in it. Where are you located? I'm sure there are a few people with old DJ dials laying around. I've got a couple but none without scratches or blemishes.

It has an eta movement in it, so a decent dial should make it a nice rep. Perhaps a gen dial is in order.

Just found the gen on the bay
amazing rep, only obvious flaws I see are 1) lume on the hands of the rep 2)the ridges on the fluted bezel are more course on this, so fewer ridges going around the circumference....are there variations on the gen ?

They biggest tell to me is the bezel as you said. The bezel on a gen if flatter than a rep and of course the Rhodium plating on a gen bezel is much shinier, more brilliant looking when it catches the light.

You can buy either type of hands aftermarket. I think that if the dial has lume on it you'll have lumed hands. If there's no lume on the dial you'll have plain hands.

I don't think the Rolex mid-size has been repped - not a very popular size. I have built one Franken with a gen case and dial and it was a pain as the case is too small for a 2836/2824 so I had to use a 2671 and machine a very large movement spacer.

There are rep parts available for mid-size Tudors and those cases will accept a 2836.

Here's a franken Tudor:

that looks nice. That may explain why the 31mm reps are often 33....perhaps that houses a 2836 easily and they make it that size to keep the headaches to a minimum

This case is less than 33mm, I may have another and if I do I'll measure it to make sure but according to my notes it was right at 31.5mm. Tudors are sometimes very confusing as a dial may say "Prince Oysterdate" but the case can vary from 31mm to 38mm.

I had never seen those before! I wonder if they are using the same basic case as the mid-size Tudor? I know for a fact that the mid-size Oyster Perpetual I built around a gen case was smaller internally and would not accept a 11 1/2 ligne movement.
