Want to buy an AP, but have concerns about sec @ 12

I'd like to pull the trigger on my first AP, a ROO Safari, but I'm concerned about the trouble I've heard with the 7750 modded to have running seconds @ 12... Is this still a problem with newer reps? Have any dealers fixed this, or added the missing jewel? I know very little about APs at this point, so any info is appreciated...

Thanks!

Get it and enjoy it...if you have any trouble with it after some time 2 solutions :

you're in love : send it to Domi for a modified and serviced movement

you don't care : sell it as it is

The last batchs of the AP are quite correct but you are uncertain about the reliability...

The last 2 that I bought new ( the Tour Auto and the Montauk Highway) were running fine so far..

Go for it, you'll love it.
I have the newer version of the Safari sec @ 12 and the Montauk Highway.
I haven't had any problems, and they really are beautiful watches.

Will do! I actually have no idea who he is... What's the best way to get ahold of him?

His forum name is Domi and you can find him here in the watchmakers and horologists forum...

+1!

My 4 APROOs so far:

* CP runs flawlessly already for months now, and is completely untouched.

* BT was also running well untouched. Later, I had it serviced anyhoo by Domi, together with C1 relume...:) Domi measured good values on the "time scale" machine even before service, and perfect(!) thereafter.

* RG RC runs well, but doesn't load too good on winder. Runs no problem on a wrist though. (According to Domi this has something to do with the rotor. Doesn't need to be fixed necessarily though)

* MH: All in all, runs well. But to some degree shows the same effect as the RG RC.

=> NO problems whatsoever with sec@12 module, or chrono.

Domi speaks good about the latest iteration of this rep / movement (with a jewel added to the sec@12 module) and does not see a big problem in the sec@12 module. The A7750 movements suffer mainly from being assembled from untrained children's hands in China under unworthy conditions, ending up in dust, dirt, fingerprints, oil, even hair, and all other sorts of crap in the movement. THAT will make problems in the first place, not so much the sec@12 thing itself -- although the additional drag that the sec@12 module will add, might push the movement over the edge, having in mind the dirt factor...

Personally, I would NEVER go for a quarz rep with more tells than anything else, just because of being afraid the sec@12 movement would *maybe* break down. Even if so, it's a cinch to one of our trusted modders / watch makers here, for example Domi to have it up and running again in no time...

Also, to clarify this: You CANNOT compare this sec@12 module with the crappy sec@6 Daytona module. the latter really is a problem and WILL eventually breaks down sooner or later. (Although Domi is rumored to have a jewel based solution handy here....;)

You could also go for AP Diver - look is pretty similar but no sec @ 12 (since it doesn't have chronos)

You do have a few options, but one that hasn't really been mentioned, if you reallly want the automatic movement, and are willing to sacrifice some detail, get the Sec @ 9 version.

Is there a Sec @ 9 version of the Safari?
