What are the giveaways? How would you know the difference between two AP ROOs, one that costs 138 and one that costs 500$? i have a 7750 safari on the way, but for less useful ones (like EoD or Lava) I am considering a quartz, if they are close.

Funny, I'm actually in the exact same boat as you, I PM'd Toro last night about one.
I've heard that the subdials are not as accurate & I've also seen a fair # of them w/ secs @ 6.
Anyone w/ hands on experience Cate to chime in?

I can't find any with a correct dial layout. Does a correct quartz exist? I'm ok with the date window being a mm or two too close to the edge, but the sec@12 needs to be right.

Do they sound the same when you hold them? Is large second hand the chrono like it should be? Any other differences I'm not thinking of? Same case consteuction, etc?

Okay let me clear all this up!!!

The differences between MOST quartz and 7750 Audemars Puget ROO is as follows:

Quartz compared to 7750:

The quartz has the sub-dials much closer to the center of the dial than the 7750.

The quartz ticks, and resets very slowly (The second hand go's around clockwise once when reset.)

The sub-dial layout on the quartz is different than the 7750. (See below)

The cases are built differently (In my experiance) the quartz is much harder to disassemble. (Different screw system, not cosmetic.)

THE SUB-DIAL LAYOUT!

The sub-dials on the 7750 are PROPER, second at 12 O' Clock, Minute at 9 O' Clock, and hour at 6 O'Clock.

The sub-dials on the quartz are as follows, second at 6 O' Clock, minute at 12 O' Clock, and hour at 9 O' Clock.

Now the big but, and it is a big one. There are quartz movements currently available in the Rubens Barrichello II reps that have the PROPER sub-dial layout, and the sub-dials are a LITTLE bit farther from the center, not perfect, but closer. Still ticks though.

Kingwatch has them on his website, none of our trusted ones have them listed to my knowledge, BUT the ones who source, like Hont can get them for you.

They cost $155

If you're considering the sound, you may be missing out on a MAJOR difference in that the Quartz ticks at once-per-second (well, it's 32,768 times per second, but the hand only moves one second at a time) whereas the 7750 has a relatively smooth sweep.

Quartz is highly accurate for timekeeping, but a dead giveaway if you're trying to fool someone that knows the movement should be mechanical.

OK, So with the sweep second hand stopped at 12, as you would normally wear the watch, the quartz tick will only be visible on the sub-dial at 12?

How obvious is that going to be if I am looking at a distance of four to six feet from you? Would it be that much of a tell?

Clearly if your purpose is to fool people with your watch* you aren't going to guarantee to pull it off without spending good money and doesn't that go for any of our watches at the end of the day?

Okay, you can barely notice it if you look at it quickly on your own wrist. The giveaway at wrist distance is seeing the sub-dial at 6 O' Clock 59 out of 60 times not at the upright position.

At six feet away, no one will notice it unless they are staring for a longggg time.

I'm new to AP and was just wondering why in most pics that I see of all different models the hands don't reset on the chronos?

What pics are you looking at where the chronos don't reset?
If the chronos dont reset, then it's either broken or it's a cheap 21J movement with faux chronos.
Can you post a pic or a link to show what you are seeing / asking about?

The weight is very heavy. I like the feel of it. This is my first and thought I would give a cheapo a try to see if I like the brand.

I think I likey. Now which model is the cheapest of the gens that is a chrono. Don't think I could pull off a $30K model.

I've been looking for this same white with bracelet combo. Can you tell what dealer got it for you?
