The splendidly unique Moses Bridge located in the Netherlands grants pedestrians access to beautiful 17th century Dutch fortress.

Every year millions of travelers flock to the Netherlands. It is a country rich in history, which boasts a wealth of cultural heritage and sights for visitors to see.

Adding to that illustrious list of must-sees is the Moses Bridge. The sunken bridge grants access to, and literally parts the waters surrounding, an old 17th century Dutch fort. The unique bridge was designed by RO & AD Architects and is made from sustainable materials — the wood used for the moat-crossing bridge is treated with a non-toxic coating that protects it from decay and erosion while increasing its longevity and use.

From a distance the bridge deceives onlookers into thinking that pedestrians are walking through the water, a trick achieved by the sloping walls running concurrent with the surrounding body of water. The bridge is just another example of how modern technology can enhance historical landmarks and offer a unique and rewarding experience all its own.

Throw something big into the canal a bit further up and the wake will slosh the visitors.

I was thinking the same thing but then remembered it's on the Dutch inland waterway system, the level does not rise, it is kept constant by pumping (all those windmills, remember?). On the odd occasion it does rise I'd hazard a guess that weather conditions are such that no one is going to be looking at forts anyway. A simple sump pump would have it dry again ion no time when things return to normal.

It looks to have a freeboard of some five or six inches and from what I know of the inland sea that is a considerable rise in water level that would flood a sizable chunk of Holland.

I bet this is wayyy more convenient and comfy than when moses and his homies crossed the red sea, that you as know if you have been there, has a 100 meter vertical wall of poisones and razor sharp corals as shore sides.
without water in there, I'd rather try to put an ounce of warm butter up a male tigers arse, with a knitting stick, than climbing that thing.
