Not 'exactly' on-topic so apologies for that but I thought a few of you might like to see what I have been working on in my spare time over the past few weeks.

The cabinet is 'powered' in order to accommodate a winder when I can get one.

I didn't make the bottom four-drawer Victorian chest, just the top bit, but I am happy with how it has all turned out...

BTW it is destined to go into a substantial walk-in-wardrobe if I live long enough to build one! (this stuff knocks an old bloke about)

:D

Thanks mate - the link has all the pics I took, but when I get my DSLR back I will take some more moody shots .... these are just with my iphone.

No wallets ... all ties .... and the drawers are full, not just single rows - the bottom drawer has the most expensive ones in it - Vivienne Westwood, Versace, Boss, Burberry, Jean Paul Gaultier, Fornasetti etc.

Hey Coldi - I made it. I had a quote USING MY WOOD of $6500.

After I regained consciousness I decided I'd make the sucker myself. Now I know why it was that pricey - took well more than a hundred hours

hey Shanno - yeah I made it and have the scars to prove it

:D

bought the timber in 1990 (tree had been milled in 1960) and stored it in the shed until I thought of something funky and permanent to make just for me.

Last time I checked, this timber costs around $8500 per cubic metre in roughsawn form. it all got 'milled out' by the 70's so there is bugger all left. You can't even cut a tree down if you happen to have one on your property.... but that makes sense .... we waste so much incredibly beautiful timber in this country, it breaks my heart.

Anyway, the idea came to me at Christmas and I finally completed it last night. It will be with me for life.

and one more - will be fun to have the winder in there as well as either a very retro iphone dock/radio/alarm etc. OR to take an old radio cabinet and modify it and a dock so it looks at home sitting there.

GentsDresser8.jpg

There really are some ugly iphone docks out there but there are some stunners too ... just harder to get in Australia. There are some great ones in the UK but as usual, sellers either don't/won't send here or they wanna brutalise me for postage. Oh well - a custom retro one might be nice ... along these lines

Nice. FYI my wife was very impressed with your entry way. Your cabinet looks great too. Keep up the great woodworking.
