Luxury watches are not just functional wristwear--they're works of art with hundreds of years of technology packed inside.Consumers' tastes and shopping preferences for watches are evolving around the globe.
Market research company Digital Luxury Group has just released its annual report on the worldwide market for high-end watches, looking at 15 of the world's biggest haute timepiece brands ahead of Baselworld, the upcoming international watch and jewelry show in Switzerland.
The report is based on more than a billion consumer searches for luxury watches on search engines including Google, Bing and Baidu.

Cool statistics. I never realized IWC was so far ahead of the pack.
Of course, they may also be the overall least expensive line in that group which could explain some of it.

Haha! That's what I've been wondering since reading this thread. Rolex' search stats would probably surpass most other brands percentages combined.

I'm also surprised to see the nominal percentage of searches for Lange, & the lack of exposure of VC & Lange in the states.

Thank you for this. Inasmuch as some gen purists bash China/Chinese to be the source of reps, they do not understand that we are likewise their highest customers for their gens.

The implication, based on the headings, is that Rolex and Omega were not considered Haute Horlogerie by the author of the research. I would generally agree with that decision, although the Omega 8500 is worth putting in that category.

Of course, where to draw the line? Most IWCs still use ETA movements.

+1 on IWC, & Zenith is in there too. As much as I dislike Rolex most of the time, they're still ahead of a couple of these other brands.

Me, three!! I'm very surprised that Rolex is absent. Wonder why?

I'm confused on that too...

Glad to see IWC kicking ass. I love their style. Extremely classy brand for the money.

Some of the most famous brands out there seem to be missing. Rolex, omega, panerai, hublot. I have a hard time believe that roger dubois or Richard Mille is better known than panerai (or obviously Rolex).

I would never put Rolex, Omega Panerai or Hublot in the Haute Horlogerie category in a million years.

Curious statistics... Not only Rolex and Omega are missing, but also Cartier !

OK, I can understand an answer telling me "this is only with Haute Horlogerie". But do you think there is really a gap between Cartier and IWC or Zenith ? I don't think so.

I also note that this statistic is about "search on internet". What does it mean ? What does it show ? Nothing, I'm afraid. Figures about sales would be more interesting. Take a look at the position of Hong-Kong. It's peanuts on this statistic, but when you read figures about turnover, HK is huge !

Anyway, if they are based on brands present in SIHH or Basel, it cannot be right. Swatch Group is in Basel, and Richemont is in SIHH. You cannot make a serious survey based on one fair or the other.

Just my two cents...

Paul

That chart just goes to show that 99.999% of people looking at a rep Breguet, Blanc, or VN wouldn't know it's not gen.
