Hi all,

A few weeks back I started to get some interest in vintage watches.
In April I will have around 3k to spend on watches/a watch.

I saw Phong, Yuki and ndtrading websites and I have to say that I am interested in buying a 1655, 1655 or 5512.

how would you decide the gen parts or rep parts to use and the mods to do for the given budget?

(and maybe for a 1500$ budget up to 3k)

I am thinking gen bezel insert, gen crown, gen bracelet and tube and depending of the model maybe gen dial. (a gen movement would also be great!). I think that if I an taking the time to search for the best prices I could remain in the 3000 to 3500$ total price (excluding the 1655).

I will go on with this project or buy a gen datejust and speedmaster depending on the feedback you will have on this thread.

I searched the forum and found some information but as I have a few months in front of me I want to take the best decision.

Thanks for your help gentlemen

If you have that sort of money, and seeing that you don't seem to have your heart set on something specific. I would get PBdad or Donerix to vintage up a couple of pieces for a lot less and then put the rest towards saving for a gen you really want.

What would you suggest me then? Contact one of them and ask them to create me one or two watches of them from scratch or will I need to provide them with the parts and base watch needed?

You can get both those models of decent quality from Josh at perfect clones i think. I'm on really slow connection so cannot check, im sorry. But yeah, buy the base watch for $200, spend $300 on making it look awesome and old. And then you have two awesome looking vintage reps and plenty of cash left over to put towards a gen.

I'm not being cheeky, but I think it sounds like you are not seeking 100% perfection for these reps. But a gen crown, new crystal from Clark and possibly new insert and you would have awesome looking watches for a lot less than $3k. Spending that much on a franken it would need to be your absolute grail of a watch that is worth $30k or something.

+1 to Bonesey's comments. Perfect Clones (not a TD here) carries very good vintage reps that are very "moddable". May want to check that out and move in that direction as it would leave you money in the bank for a gen but you'd still have a couple of nice timepieces.

The other avenue would be to check with Narikka (Trusted Dealer here) who sources MBW watches. My understanding is these will take gen parts but are a little more expensive.

I think that you guys are correct, I will take a gen second hand datejust and I will ask someone to do some mods on a 1655 from PT or narikaa (if he van source a1655) and I will just add a yuki bracelet with gen clasp on it.

This looks more like a smart move than what I had in mind first don't you think ;)

What is the URL to perfect clones? When I google it, there are two pages with the same title.... :S

well if i were u i would not spend 2k or 3k for a watch that can be easily replicated
i mean buy something that hasnt been replicated
i go to the store , i try some 5k watches
then i order from tdealer and pay around 350 for something that has an excelent quality ! we save lots of money with replicas
if im gonna buy a gen i would buy 1 with amazing movement , imposible to replicate and of course a good looking 1

u know something ? what the biggest problem is ??
we are changing all the time , now u like that watch , tomorrow u will like another 1 .
it happended to me bro , i was crazy about a pam 104, i still like the watch a lot , but the point is that i wanted it to be the best as posible so i spent probably $700 dolars for it , nothing wrong that u want something really close to the gen , but now i c really good ones for 300$ super lume already and just some ar job for 80$ and done ! looks the same shit as mine.
i wouldnt pay $700 again , i have some other watches that are out of the box and they looks as good as the panerai 104 that i have
after, u will like something else , and if u wanna sell it in the future , u will loose lots of money,
now with replicas u dont have to stick just to 1 watch u can change all the time
and u will wanna try different models all the time , so buy something that looks good , mod it little but dont spend 2 much , and with the rest keep buying nice replicas
if u dont wanna listen to me ,
**** u
who da **** do u think u are ??
sorry i lost it for 1 second
i love u
