So which 'Military'

I have to replace my B&R 'Military' because I 'vintaged' my previous one. So I started looking. Timeshops has one for $150 with an Asian 4813 movement. Watcheden has one with an Asian 2892 for $195. Meanwhile, Puretime doesn't have the 'military', but its 03-92 come with Asian 2813 movements which can be upgraded to 2836.....

.....so, of course, I'm confused. I thought they all came out of the same factory with the same movements. So..... can anyone tell me who supplies the best 'military' and which movement I should go for--and why.

I remember Smidsy saying that there were a number of really good B&R 02-93 reps out there. Which are they? Speaking of Smidsy..... Where is he? Used to be that he had an answer for any B&R question within moments of posting 24-7. Now..... he's gone.... where?????

I see Lay has the 'Military' with a 2836-2 movement at $188 (in PVD, $10 less for the stainless version).

You MUST buy a genuine green fabric strap for the 'Military' if you get one. The rep black one just doesn't do it justice, and the rubber one is just plain silly.

I dont know the answer unfortunately. But Smidsy is located over at repgeek now.

I bought the lay one and have ordered the gen olive strap.
I have read the rubber straps are bad, however I am happy with mine, it seems really comfortable. Being my first B&R though, I have nothing to compare it against.

I also ordered a fabric camo strap from a Japanese company. If you come across it, DON'T buy one, it is extremely stiff and uncomfortable. I took it off my watch within minutes.

Shopping around, I think Lay's is indeed the best. The one piece of advice I have found is to stay away from the ones with the Asian 4813 movements (which is what Timeshops sells). Angus at Puretime tells me he can get a 'military' too, despite not being on his web site, but you have to pay a premium to get a 2836 movement in it. His regular has the dreaded 4813. Lay's is therefore the best deal. I've never dealt with him, but I believe his record is excellent. Please post pictures and a review when yours arrives. I'm sure you will love it--once you paint the four screws on the dial black.

Here is mine before and after I took a file to it...I much prefer the roughed up look.
I will be leaving the screws green though as I think it looks better, even though is not accurate.
Just wish my gen strap would hurry up :)

No THAT is an appealing B&R!!! IF(!) only they'd make it in 44 or better yet 46mm...

Once you've worn 44mm and above, everything else is shockingly small on the wrist...:(

Nice work Aza.

I have a black PVD one, with black dial and orange hands and numbers.

How you did your mod?

Thanks,

Max

What do you mean by "Took a File to it"? Sand paper? I would love to do this to my BR 01 beater I have.

Looks awesome BTW, nice job!

Perhaps he is talking about a "nail file"
But I think it is better to use Scotch Brite and you will be able to aply gradually the effect you want to achieve.
Because you want an effect of weared out
The Scotch Brite will give you a weared out "fine" more polish.
You could use too fine sandpaper to have similar results.
But I think that with Scotch you will be able to have more graduate treatment.

Pefect Clones has the Military here for $228. I don't know if it's even in stock.

I was pretty interested in getting one of these as well. I emailed Josh at Perfect Clones and he said they were in stock and to just put my order in. I replied saying that no-one in the forums has been able to get them, so he's actually going to look if he can order them. I'll let you know once he gets back to me.

That's why I didn't order from Perfect Clones. He told me that he has the PVD version in stock but none of the other TD (Puretime, MR, Timeshops, Mary at WatchInternational, Trusty Time) can get so I was skeptical. If he can get the Military or PVD versions then other TD can get them too since they pretty much comes from the same place.

Well I placed the order with Josh. He promised he had one/could get one, so we'll see if he keeps his word.

I'll update if/when I get QC pics.

Sorry to ask again, but I've read in most of the Rep forums (RWG, RepGeek, etc) that they are unavailable. Do you actually have one it stock or would you have to order one? I just don't want to place the order unless I can guarantee you can get it.

Thanks,
Sean
