Do you let anyone borrow your watches?

Just wondering what everyone's feelings were on this.

Currently my brother in law is borrowing my 359 on a custom strap. He was looking at the collection when they were down visiting over Christmas and just fell in love with it. So I said he could borrow it, of course in the hope that he might get interested in watches. Probably not, but I think it has piqued his interest in looking for a new watch. Might be a rep, might not.

My wife is also a bit of a tom boy and for the past 3 months she's been wearing my Breitling Abyss on rubber for going to work etc. I recently gave it a clean and noticed that the AR on the front has a good few scratches and that the polished case has picked up a few. But I've pretty much given up on ever getting that back as she likes the numbers because they look like Star Trek font.

Anyway, do you lend your watches out to anyone? Ever? Or are you too precious about them :)

Fek no! Same goes for cars!

And for the money, Id just show 'em the website and offer assistance where needed.

I don't lend mine out either. A lot of people (even friends and family) will break it, say "oops, sorry", and leave us paying for repair or replacement. It's a different story if the watch is meant for passing around the forums, but I wouldn't consider that part of a personal collection.

A big NO for me too. Cos if the watch came back with scratches or dented here and there, there is nothing much can be done other than screwedmy ownself for lending the watch out. So in order not to let this happen, I will just reject whoever wanna borrow watch from me.

I would let a friend try them on, but that it would be it. If they wanted one, I would show them where to buy it.

If someone wants a nice watch, a couple of hundred quid is not too much for them to pay.

They can look at the merchandise. They can touch and smell. But I'm the only one who's gonna use them.

I don't like to lend mine either.

It is not a value or price of repair question. I have no problem to give them but not to lend.
Anyway, I would never give my AP's, my HBB's, my PAM's, my TAG's, my Cartiers, my Chopards, my Rolexes, my B&R's, my...

Just one time I have lend my HBB V1 SS/ceramic for a week to the boyfriend of my younger daughter. No problems. But I was suffering all time that week.

I love my watches and i'm very careful with them, it is a personal question.
Sorry a lot.

My wife has "borrowed" a few of my watches. By "borrow" I mean permanently re-sized.
My son has worn a few, but his nearly 8.5" wrist compared to my just under 8" wrist makes it difficult with all but a few on long straps.
Other than that - NO.

I've let friends and family use my watches, and sometimes they wind up owning them.

I don't mind at all.
I can see if the watch has been treated well after. if not, then no more watch trying for this guy.
not like I lend watches to everyone all the time, but if a mate shows real interesst, then I see no reason why not to let them try to enjoy the great feel of having a really nice watch on the wrist, afterall isn't that a part of why we collect reps and not precious gens?
a guy (bronfrost rwi member) always have 1 or 2 of my reps at his place. I have had his gen fortis b42 flieger for some months too.

I don't lend mine out - but I do have an alternative approach... My brother and Dad are watch fans, so I buy them a rep for birthdays/Christmas which allows me to try out a model I might be interested in!

Exact same happened with me. Years ago I had just taken delivery of a genuine Breitling B1 (£1,600, $2,500) and took it off for my friend to look at, he dropped it!! Luckily no damage done. No longer have the watch but it was an absolute beauty of a watch.

Borrow my watch? Whats next, my undees? Drive my car while your at it. Take my wife, please! I take my wife everywhere, but she always finds her way home. Oh!

No one's borrowing my watches. My wife could wear one here and there if she wanted, but she doesn't. I just gave her my (gen) vintage seamaster, so at the end of the day even though I don't lend watches, I'm a pretty nice guy. :)
