OK -- where to begin..
First, let me say that if I have posted this in the wrong forum/topic - mods pls feel free to move it - I really feel I must document my little sojurn into the Rep world here as it has been VERY informative and enjoyable. I really want other noobies to have a read here and learn from my experience !
I have been a Rolex fan since I was a teenager. I was captivated by the idea that a watch could cost in excess of $10,000 and being from rural Eastern Canada my exposure to these watches was limited to the occasional marquee in a jewellery store or ad in a magazine - nevertheless I inhaled every bit of info I could garner on the Rolex name and have remained a fan ever since. When I was in grade 11 my father found a quartz powered Day/Date blue face, diamond markers, gold/ss presidential band while he was on business in the US and gave it to me for Christmas - it was a rep (obviously) and he told me as much after I opened it but that did NOTHING to diminish my thrill and exhilaration as I admired this amazing watch. The simple fact that it represented a Rolex was enough for me. That was 25 or more years ago and sadly the watch has been lost since as the strap let go under a winter coat and fell out unnoticed some years ago. But I wore it frequently and received many compliments on it believe it or not even with its clunky stilted quartz movement and what I can only imagine would be glaring deviations from a gen in those days of rep watch production.
About 4 or 5 years ago it occurred to me that I wanted another replica Rolex as I certainly was not going to pay out the bucks for a gen - furthermore- I like the replicas better - again believe it or not - so I started searching the 'net and I ALMOST pulled the trigger on a $1200 "swiss" sub from one of those crap-o sites ( you know the ones ) until the fates smiled on me an I came across this life-saving and awesome forum !! I don't mean to gush. I have never posted anything but I have spent all my time reading and researching and searching and reading some more - its hard to imagine the volume of knowledge available from the regular contributors here at RWI but it is something worthy of an 'ology' suffix. Seriously.
I knew I would never be into modding a rep. or buying a custom modded one - or tweaking anything as I don't have the resources or ability/dexterity here so I needed to be happy with an 'out-of-the-box' rep. So, after a few years of research and shopping on the Dealer sites here on RWI - delayed by a few bouts of cold feet - I made a decision. In November I saw Christmas coming and I wanted to repay my Dad with a kick-a$$ rep watch so I picked out a nice Daytona ( 2 the same really, one for Dad and a matching one for me) and while I had the VISA out I picked out a new SeaDweller DeepSea all from PureTime ( http://www.puretimewatch.com ) and all with Asian automatic movements. I gotta say that after I hit 'confirm' on the check-out I was more than a little nervous. BUT I had faith in the info on RWI and the reputation of the dealers here which is why I put $800 in the hands of the folks at PureTime.
Well - what can I say about my purchase..?
I didn't have any idea what to expect but I was shocked and I mean shocked at receiving constant email updates on my order status - THEN I received a series of photos from Doris at their quality control dept. that showed the actual watches I bought in nice detail !! I asked Doris a question and received a personalized, genuine response in the same day ( factor the time change between Can. and China) ! And in no time ( 5 days ) I received my watches - just opened them about two hours ago. ...... MAN ! They are the BOMB ! I mean they are sweet !! Nice, solid, quality watches - they seem substantive and are beautiful - sharp lines, beautifully polished cases, beautiful fonts - sweet sweeping second hand - I mean I could NOT have been more delighted ! My Dad is going to be seriously impressed.
SO.. I fully realize that these watches will have flaws that the rep experts ( if I may ) will see BUT you have to realize that I have never seen a gen Daytona (11605) or SeaDweller (116660) nor have most of the people I have ever met - these watches are unattainable for most people. If you believe eBay the gen counterparts are asking $25K and $10K respectively - wow.
My digital camera is junk so I will post the pictures Doris sent me - these guys are out of the box anyway so you will get the gist.
I want to close this post by making three points:
1) I want to thank PureTime and give kudos to them - they made my first rep buy a worry and hassle free experience; their website functioned flawlessly, as did their check-out - communication was great as was the product and packaging
2) I want to thank the Moderators and Contributors here at RWI - I would never have made my first purchase without the knowledge and confidence I gained here
3) for newbies and first time buyers - you have to do your research but if you need to hear from a true Noob - take it from me you can rely on the info and recommendations available here at RWI - check out the trusted Dealer section
Thanks for reading this rather long post - and if anyone can recommend how best to thank PureTime such that it benefits them pls let me know..
If this post needs to be moved, pls do not hesitate..
If I am inappropriately plugging the dealer pls let me know - but at this moment I am very very happy and wanted to share this story with the forum.
One of the wisest quotes I picked up here on RWI is something like " People will suspect your Gen is a Fake long before they believe your Rep is a Gen " or words to that effect....
Happy Holidays, all - Merry Christmas !
