Hey everyone, Im new here and the past couple of weeks I have been doing a ton or research on replica watches. I found a GMT II from puretime that I absolutely need to have.
So the watch I want comes in a 2836-2 movement and my question is, How reliable is that movement for this particular watch? Am I going to run into issues with this movement? And are there any ways to maintain the watch/movement to assure longevity?
Here is the watch I want to get:

Thank you all!

Unfortunately, many GMT II owners with 2836-2 movements have had bad luck with their watches keeping reliable time. I am one of them. Two out of three of my Asian 2836-2 movements have had to be replaced entirely to ensure that the watches ran reliably. Asian 21j movements have proven to be much more reliable in GMT II's. Robert (a trusted dealer on this forum, Time4Direct ) offers a movement on some of his watches that may be a option to taking chances with an Asian 2836-2. Robert's movement is an Asian 21j modified to beat at 28000bpm. Although I don't own one, yet, I'm assuming you get the reliability of the A21j movement with the smooth sweeping second hand of the 2836-2.

The 2836-2 ETA Chinese Clone can be a fairly reliable workhorse. As with most Chinese reps; the moment you get it, have it lubed & serviced and it'll last for a long long time. prevention is better than cure. having said that, i know of many folks (myself included) who've just taken the watch and worn it out of the box without any issues since.

of course for every norm, there are exceptions & lemons.

also, i've heard the GMT IIs used to have the wrong hand stack, as it allows for better movement longevity (not an expert opinion)
but i'm not sure what the trade of is with this correct hand stack version.

First off...Welcome to the Forum..you're gonna love it here!!
The 2836 itself is a very reliable mvt. And remains so with the GMT complication as well.
At least my experience with the ICHS version has been. reliable. There are many topics regarding the 2836 GMT modded mvt. having the CHS. From what I've gathered they can prove to be a nightmare...but ask around. I haven't really looked at the GMT II's since the BK Transformer....it's quite possible they've made improvements and corrected issues known in the past. The one you referrenced offered by Angus looks good to me.
Ask around...have fun...and best wishes in your search for the GMT II made just for you.

And while we're on the subject of the CHS 2836 GMT modded mvt....does anyone know if the date flips off the hour hand or off the GMT hand. In the past I've heard a little of both.

At LowNote...thanks for that tid-bit of info....I was aware that Robert deemed the 21j mvt a better choice for a GMT functioning mvt...but I was "not" aware that the 21j he prefers was modded to be a 28,8. I figured 21j...21,6. That's something to note...thanks again.

It has to flip off the GMT hand (which is where the hour hand would usually be). I cannot imagine a way to change that, since the calendar wheel is driven by the wheel that carries that hand.

I actually JUST got my GMT IIc and noticed that the GMT hand was working when I first got the watch and set the time. A few hours later, I decided to set the GMT hand to US-EST, that's when I noticed the GMT hand lagging.

I then used a technique I read about in another thread to 're-engage' the GMT hand. I pulled the crown to the date/GMT setting, then slowly advanced the date until it just started to flip to the next day. Then I backed off the crown until the date was back in the right position and screwed the crown back in. Works just fine now.

I have read reports of folks doing this process if/when their 2836-GMT hands stop working, and it gets them going every time. Worked for me in this case. YMMV.

EDIT- Just for clarification, mine is a GMT-IIc 2836 w/ ICHS.

Thank you guys for your responses. I am kind of set on getting a GMT with CHS, but I have not really seen anyone on this forum talk about one yet. (maybe im just not looking hard enough) I have not been able to find any arguments to determine if the CHS or ICHS is better for this watch, but I personally want the CHS just because it replicates the original timepiece. If you guys have any more information or advice for me I would love to hear it.

I'm interested in the reliability of the CHS model as well.
Seems like the reliability of the 2836-2 is in question when it comes to the GMT versions.
My DSSD with the 2836-2 works fine and is accurate as far as I can tell.

It's not actually the reliability of the 2836 mvt that's being questioned...it's the reliability of it when the GMT complication is added.

And what sneed says regarding the date function working off the GMT hand rather than the hour hand with the CHS mvt. makes perfect sense.

I've never had a problem with the ichs 2836-2 in my GMT. The CHS can be much more of an issue though. Can you really tell how the hands are stacked? Other than a couple times a day you'd never know. I'd go with the 2836-2 ICHS.

This technique worked for me too on my 2836 with the GMT mod.
