I started my franken 3714-01 project last Wednesday, starting from just changing the dial.

When I got the 3714-01 from Mary, the rep is really good, but the dial numerals looks more like brass to me, so the dial got the change first. I know the changing of movement will be very challenging so that will come last, as it will require a lot of time and tools investment (yeah, I am even thinking of buying a lathe just for the experience of modifying it on my own, otherwise, it'll go to Domi :D)

which is old and new? is the new a gen?

gen is on the left, not installed yet in these pictures. Took me about two and a half hours to assemble it. Doable for amateurs like me but it just takes some time to do it.

I wish that I could do this...Unfortunately I'm pretty sure I'd end up ruining the whole thing. Please continue to post tho, I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of the assembly process and the finished "product" when it's done, no matter how long that might take ;). It's a gorgeous watch, the only thing stopping me from getting one is the movement issues and the fact that I'm an absolute beginner when it comes to modifying.

Lantis,

Looks like a great project. Keep us posted on progress. I am itching for a Portus!

Thanks, everyone! I'll be installing the new movement very soon. Now that I've read more about the modding of the case I think a lathe will be overkill, so I will instead buy a vertical drill for precision sanding.

@Justchill - I bought it from Concepta. I bought a set (dial, hands, movement) which he gave me a good deal, but if you're only buying a dial it will be more expensive in the end if you bought the hands and movement afterwards.
