KBH, you ain't gonna find many reps with that movement, but I agree on the specs, but I also disagree that a Rolex 3135 or Omegas new 8500 can really be compared to a 2892 or like. No I'm not a Rolex snob, you know that already.

To dump 2K into a rep watch is crazy to me but not to others I guess, so good luck and have fun then.

At the end of the day. I don't think most people are building frankens for strictly investment purposes.

Funny enough soon as you mention reps everyone here says that they like the watch and its a cool watch and they don't buy them to try and fool people, and then when you mention frankens people say why bother and why waste money on a poor investment. Very hypocritical. No?

Sure you can buy used gens and low coat gens, but most of these gens everyone is talking about are $1000-$2000 watches.. I could understand the frankens of these $10000 watches, sure it makes sense..

If you have the money and you want to do it, why not.

I wouldn't waste my time buying a $1000 omega for an investment..

But if I'm spending $1000 on a watch I really like that will last a long time and I'm not shoving it in everybodies face pretending to be a rich guy, why not..

I put a 2892-2 into a WM9 Sub just to try and it fit and worked fine. Also put a 2893-2 which is basically the same thing with GMT module into a GMTIIC. Sweet running movements, for sure. So, although they don't come in many reps, there's certainly nothing wrong with using one as an upgrade to a watch that you plan on keeping long term.

But I'll agree dumping $2000 into a rep is foolish.

We were talking $1000 earlier which kind of seems to be the outside limit for most people. Especially since the "custom" made vintage Panerai bubble burst last year.

And here's what what written in that article about the new Omega 8500:

..............and possibly Omega’s new caliber 8500. But unlike the first two movements, the latter one, notwithstanding the fact that it is their 3rd generation of Dr. George Daniel’s co-axial escapement, doesn’t have the advantage of over 20 years worth of use, abuse and refinement, so it’s still an open question as to its long term reliability.

Remember that co-axial movement had been rather unreliable in the past as well as more expensive to service. That's why they had to drop the beat rate down from 28.8 to 25.2. Also, most all of Omega's previous movements were built on ETA platforms including the 2892-2 and the 7750. So my point is there's nothing wrong with a good ETA movement.

sempire, some us have both gens a reps, no need to BS anyone. Alot of guys will buy reps cause they dont want to spend that much on a gen but of course still desire the look. My point is spending extra over the cost of the rep just to make it a better rep cosmetically makes no sense to me.

KBH, agreed nothing wrong with a good ETA movement, also agreed my first Omega with co-axial movement wasn't that great and my second Omega with the second gen 2500 was much better, but I really like the new 8500 movement.:sub4me:

Having owned the gens 16610's and 16750's and still owning a couple gen Tag heuer Chronometers I have to say I find it difficult to see where the 3135 and 3186 mvts performed any different or any better than the 2892A2 in the Tags. Yes, the 3186 may have been a GMT but still.....the ONLY difference I ever noticed was initial cost and then the cost to have serviced. I can't say anything regarding the Omega 8500....I've never owned one.

i'm not really in to the watch=investment thing. it's not. sure a rollie or patek will hold value better than other (NON WATCH) things. but investment? nope. you can't know that a watch will gain value any more than a share ect...really it's a toy. gen patek or 50dollar sub. just a toy. that tells time. that is ok. they are cool toys that i like. but toys nevertheless, enjoy them and your time with them; it is fleeting...

I would spend $1000 for a franken sub since a real one in very used form would sell for $2500 - $3000, and as much as $4500+ for somthing in really good condition.

I usually will buy a decent quality first to ensure I like the watch and flip it when I'm ready to upgrade. And crazy to think about the kinda money being thrown at these rep projects now days.

I would much rather buy a tw sub and install the Gen parts vs buy one already built, there's the instant pleasure of buying it ready to go, however, not as many people share this same feeling since more pleasure is derived from the build itself.

I like wanting to do stuff to my reps. When I tell people I want to do stuff to my gens, or mention it to people on WUS, they lose it. It's funny. So many purists. If I want to put a better AR on my rep 3717, everyone loves Taka or Chief AR, but if I want better AR on my gen AR people act like I'm punching babies all day.

I don't understand how making something better doesn't make sense to you.

People modify cars, but I guess of it's not a Ferrari then why bother?

Exactly.

I guess some people save up to buy these investment watches so there is less enjoyment in it because it's for a different reason. Special occasions and being a watchbox princess.

I don't think I'd buy a gen just to tell people on a rep forum i have a gen and if I wanted an investment i would certainly buy something other than a watch..

I enjoy my reps, gens and frankens as watches and love them for what they are.

For me my gen limit is around $2000, so I can buy used Omegas and Breitlings. However Rolex subs are too much for me to spend on a watch, so I would go to around $1000 to say mod a sub that you could not buy used for less than 4000, but no more, for that money I'd rather buy a gen.

Because your throwing good money at bad. You don't spend money trying to dress up a piece of crap watch that in China sells for fifty bucks on a good day, but hey do what ever you like, go ahead modify your VW bug and have fun. But chances are you never recover the cost you sunk into it and it loses value quicker with your personal mods (you know that dumb looking super scoop hood), but by all means go ahead, after all your the know it all on WUS (that says it all right there, WUS LMFAO) and now here.:biglaugh:

Mt FrPO is a kick ass timepiece. Keeps great time and glows as good as a Gen PO. I have less than 1K all in. Why would I pay 2K+ for the Gen PO? I just don't get it? Please help me understand what is so wrong with that? :lolcina:

My FrSD is the same. All in, I'm under 1K. It also keeps great time, glows like a torch. What's wrong with that?

Q5?, nothing wrong with that to me if thats what your into. But not matter whats done and no matter how much you spend, its still a rep ( junk, fake, whatever you want to call it), and has no real pratical value, besides I don't care what you do unless you change every part and I mean every part, its no gen and will never perform or wear like a gen, bottom line.

Course I've seen your PO and your SSD, and your, and your, and your lol and there all very nice, so wear them well bro.:sub4me:

I'm not trying to recover my money. It's not an investment for me.

I don't go out and spend $300 for dinner and then throw it up looking for value.

I buy it, mod it, enjoy it.

It's funny that every time someone buys a $1000 used gen on eBay they become a seasoned investor of fine horological items..

Why are you even here when all you have to contribute is some salty bullshit every time anyone has anything to say. You're on a rep board where people buy and mod reps. Get over it.

You sit there with your VW Bug and start shelling out the shit soon as anyone else says 'I got a VW Bug too and.."
