Hey mates,

so I recently got a quite old watch from my Mom. She said the it originally belonged to my grandfather.
I have no idea what's the name of the model or anything.
Maybe someone could assist me?

Ah, a vintage Girard Peregaux, lovely watch!

Unfortunately, it's not worth a fortune (perhaps $300-$400 in that condition) but I'm sure the sentimental value is far greater than the monetary anyhow.

As for the age, my best guess is that it's from the early 60s but I'm hardly an expert. Perhaps someone with a little more knowledge can chime in.

Enjoy it well as I'm sure your Grandfather would have wanted you to. :)

Here is my 1977 Omega Deville USS model; It was created for the United States Steel Union employees. I replaced the band with a croc skin Omega band, and the watch features a white gold dial with the USS logo. Still running strong with likely an Omega bumper movement, although I have not opened it up. Without servicing and with little wear its still accurate within two minutes a few roughly.

@shirazi_r
Yeah it has quite a sentimental value 'cause it was his first watch he bought for collecting.
Bit sad that he doesn't gave a nice vintage sub to my mom ;)
Thanks for your quick answer !

Don't worry about vintage subs, you'll soon realize that watches like these become the very cornerstone of your collection. Among numerous luxury watches, both genuine and not, I'd still give them all up for the one watch my father gave me.

Great to have something like that in your box. Being from your grandfather puts it in the priceless category. Never get rid of it and keep it in working condition.

Yeah I know! I think it has also a style that is hard to get nowaydays!
Watches you get from grandparents or parents are also of a long lasting value like nothing different. By turing of age, I got an Explorer from my parents.
These things will always remain in my box and even more on my wrist.

That is beautiful old Girard!
My guess is late 50s. I think I might have one very similar - I'll check when I get home.
These old pieces are classic and timeless. Sadly, they are often too small to wear these days - this one is @33-35mm, right?
However, you can put it on a bund strap which makes it much more wearable, but also makes it more casual.
As a vintage lover and collector, I thank you for sharing this piece with us. Someday maybe your son will post pics of the watch his dad handed down.

I flew from Orlando back to St. Louis yesterday, and an elderly gentlman was wearing a vintage Patek tank with a black lizard strap. Simple, elegant and stunning.... and commands repect of watch lovers for sure!

Back in '59, my high school principal retired..>>>

We all chipped in and he was given a solid gold GP, engraved on the back...That was the first time I had ever heard of one, and I now own a couple of them!!......
And That Hamilton Stuart from 1941 is MAGNIFICENT!!

And BTW....I'm "grandpa" now, and I've already given my grandkids a couple of heirloom watches each!!

I've got a grandpa's GP also. Only thing it's in a pocket watch. I took it out and put it in a IWC case just for grins. Now it's back where it belongs, but I did get a few pictures. Very nice looking movement.
