I am about to buy this watch:

PP06001_PATEK_PHILIPPE_CLASSIC_5500TBJ_TOURBILLON_%281%29__05598_zoom.JPG

I think I have seen Pix shoot a couple of wrist shots with it, looks like a great dress watch. I was really torn between this and and a white breitling super avenger, might end up with both.

Do not buy this watch, Patek does not make open heart watches, and it'll come across as an obvious fake.

What if he just likes the watch...?

I'm just operating under the assumption that he's unaware that the watch will come across as an obvious fake to anyone who knows anything at all about Pateks. As long as he's aware of this issue, and still likes the watch, I would say go ahead and buy whatever he like.

It's a lovely fantasy watch. If you like it, wear it with pride.
The good news is that the brand name is hard to read on the wrist, so a lot of PP guys wouldn't notice it's a fake either. ... unless they like it and try to see what it is. Then you're busted.

Actually, unless a person sees the Patek name on the dial, they will not think it is a Patek.

It might be ignorance on my part, but I haven't seen a Patek chronograph with a guilloche dial. I've looked at the Patek catalogues as well as the offerings on chrono24.com, and nothing with that kind of engraved dial shows up. My impression is that Patek dress watches tend to have quite plain white dials, without too much engraving.

My suggestion is buy it if you like the look, but if I were you and I liked the design, I would try to see if it was available with some other branding besides Patek, say a Breguet instead, which are famous for their intricate guilloche dials. If you can help it, I would also avoid the open heart models. A similar watch with that kind of dial, but without the open heart, and with a Breguet branding would probably be a much more credible replica.

I have nothing against fantasy models, but to me, it defeats the purpose of having a famous brand on a watch if it looks much more like a watch from a different brand, and was something that the brand would never manufacture.

I should have been more specific when I created this thread. I am well aware this is a fantasy model, but the look of it is incredible for an open-heart watch. I fell in love with it when I saw it on a few wrist-check weeks.

I normally do enjoy accurate watches, but only on extremely noticeable brands. While I understand that PP is a well known brand, their models are not as well known since 99.9% of the world can't afford them. If someone who knows PP's sees it, you are right, they would probably call me out, but I doubt I find too many PP guys.

I do appreciate everyone's input, but Wiz nailed it, I like the way it looks :)

I did see this on Puretime's website:

ZENITH-2008-10-29-03-01_enl.JPG

But decided to go with the PP for several reasons:

1. I generally use Lay as my dealer and he doesn't sell this model on his webpage.
2. The dial seemed to be a bit different color (might not be).
3. The Zenith model was about $100 more.

Okay, so long as one is making an informed decision, you should buy what you enjoy and like. It is indeed rare to see an open heart functional chronograph, and the power reserve complication is particularly useful for a manual wind watch.

Thank you, I have purchased a few watches in my day (My sales feedback probably reflects that I go through a lot of watches, lol), but I just couldn't get away from this watch, it has been in my head for 5 months.

If you've been eyeing it for 5 months, then it's probably time to pull the trigger on the watch.

Very true, sadly I get distracted by other watches and didn't have a need at the time for a dress watch. Now I due! I pulled the trigger, but bought it with Lay so I hope his current situation with being removed as a trusted dealer doesn't affect my transaction!

I hope it works out for you with Lay. I just received a H-factory Pam 111m from another TD, but it was DOA... quite bummed out about that, hopefully it'll be resolved soon.
