In May I bought a lot of 5 watches, 3 of which had faults.

1 - Rolex GMTIIC where the GMT hand does not work.
2 - A Breguet where the strap could not come off
3 - A Chopard Happy Sport quartz which died within days. Not a battery issue.

There has been a lot of communication with dealer. Last count 50 mails (not counting the initial sales communication), about half from me. I have also been to watchmakers locally to try to sort out the Breguet clasp and the Chopard.

After a couple of months in China I now received back the Breguet clasp (sorted) and the Rolex. The latter not sorted.

When complaining about that I received the following response from the dealer this morning:

regarding your ROLEX GMT watches. the GMT hand work when hour hand go 1 hour. the GMT hand go a half .

we test your rolex GMT hand.

1. pls adjust Hour hand and GMT hand to 12:00.

2. pls manual adjust hour hand 12 hours. then you will see the GMT hand will only move 6 hours.

if as above . your watch GMT hand is not lost time.

pls test your watch according to above

From 8 am yesterday until 8 am today the GMT hand lost 8 hours.
The dealer's response tells me that he has not tested the watch at all. They have manually moved the hands around, and it all seemed OK. That in spite of a specific request to run the watch for 24 hours before returning it.

Now it is going back again.

There will be more emails. Cost of more shipments. Risk. And time.

But I really have very little confidence that the issue will be solved.

So hence my question: At what point should I call in a Mod??

+1, it's time :)
Regarding the Rolex issue, unfortunately it's very common, I had the same.
Cleaning and oiling the gear that transfers the day feature to the GMT solves it...for a while.
Feel free to PM me.

A GMT buying tip....>>>

When you buy a GMT rep, opt for the "el-cheapo" 21j models...They have far fewer failures than the ETA clone modified ones...All 3 of mine are 21j 'ers, and have worked fine for a couple of years so far!!

Yep thats the best advice for that type of watch but since your past that point it looks like your handling this the right way, good for you bro the mods will work this out for you, they usually are sucessful.

Nothing like sending a watch back because of a specific problem and getting it returned with the exact same problem. Dealer is off my list at that point. Good luck, mods will help you.
