Ah, H22 swap, also a nice choice. Lots of them available too for good price. Did you do any internal work or forced induction to it? My buddy is starting to work on a K-swapped EG hatchback...he's currently wrestling with a Hondata, and it's making his life miserable ;)

We did do forced induction, but other then that no real tinkering with the engine outside of the swap.

The engine was powerful enough that we focused more on the car and it's handling then anything else.

:)

X5M should've had a manual ;)

Every sports car/sedan/suv should be available in an MT. That's the first thing that pissed me off when I got my 11 X5. I am so used to the 6MT that it feels weird not to have the stick. The 8 speed auto is very good slamming through the gears, but I just love the feel of the MT.

There are sports cars that aren't available in MT?
Why would they do that....

I like the sports cars that are ONLY available in MT :p

If it doesn't have a manual tranny (or an AMT at the very least) it ain't a sports car!
I detest coming into a corner and having to anticipate the lag as the auto shifts down as I power out of it. Autos are fine but if I'm driving fast I want to decide which gear I'm in and I want the power down now.

I agree. It needn't be the only choice, but it should be standard or no-cost option. I love my DSG, love the paddles and the quick shifts and the rev-matched downshifts and the launch control and the distinctive "burp" of noise it makes when it shifts, but there's something to be said for moving that lever and pushing that pedal. It's slower and less efficient, but some days I really miss it. My next car will be a true manual...(though when I do get it, i'm going to say that I miss being able to just throw the thing in "D" and not have to deal with a clutch in rush-hour traffic :D )

Clutch is rush hour = awful

I was in NJ about 10 min from NYC .. Horrible traffic each day and driving around in my MT sucked balls..

But now I'm back in MA where I can drive nice and fast and take tight corners :p

chicago rush hour is horrendous....maybe 45mins to an hour sometimes of gridlock. I don't mind a clutch in traffic when it's only like 10 or 15 minutes long, but an hour gets annoying.

What's really fun is a carbonetic triple in my X during rush hour. I used to curse it every time I got stuck in traffic.

My buddy used to have an Exedy triple in his VIII that was like stepping on a brick. I hated driving it, but he insisted a pressure plate with stiff springs felt "sporty". I understand, but geez.

I have a heavy duty clutch on my Mustang, and yes, it's brick-like. But when you drop it, you will feel it grip. I rarely drive it in traffic, but the times I have, it is FAIL !!!

the FJ comes in a sweet OD green now that i'm in love with. I'm the farthest thing from an off-road guy, but damn if that wouldn't look good with some lights, beadlocks, big tires, a bull bar and winch.

how did you manage to get a heavy duty clutch? the clutch in my mustang is fine. sure it isn't as forgiving as the one in my vw beetle but it is much more luxurious than what i have read people deal with in forums.

just be thankful that you don't drive a chevy s-10 with a manual. those things were totally horrendos. heavy tall clutch and you couldn't move the seat back at all.

My buddy had same problem. He built a beast of a civic though... Wrong wheel drive I used to say, even though I was busy dropping ni$mo parts into my SE-R (since sold).

JBA is here locally. They have them in stock. But I don't recommend it for driving in traffic. Took it out today for a spin in the 80 degree weather.
