What experience have y'all had with Swiss replicas

So I know all the bad blood here against Swiss made replicas but a friend of mine who fixes watches informed me that's it's slightly more than just name, the Swiss made mvmts actually are made of different and higher quality materials than the Chinese and even Japanese mvmts, they're not just punched out of sheet metal as is done in china.

I wanted to know people's Experinces with Swiss (not rebuilt- I've read that thread and i feel for the guy, the stuff in that watch was NASTY)

Also I found a site that's got a substantially smaller selection of watches than most of the Chinese companies but I wasn't able to find any verifiable information on them- www.swissreplica.us

Any thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions ?

I suggest you stick to the Trusted Dealers here. At the the edge of the world, there be monsters. ;)

There's already tons of info on the various grades of movements here. Take a little time and read. You'll be glad you did.

Welcome to the forum!

There are no Swiss replicas, simple as that. Some might claim the watch was created there, and that the movement was made by golden cows up in the mountains. Well, they are lying.

It's possible to get a Swiss movement in a replica, but even that is hard to achieve, especially with the dodgy site you just posted -- I would steeeeeer away.

If you want a 'Swiss' replica, buy one from the trusted dealers (it will prolly be clone, but it's as close as you'll get in this hobby).

I just read the sales pitch on that site, and practically fell off my chair laughing. My BS meter went on overload....

I bought a watch from that website before I found RWI (my first rep). Biggest piece of shit I own. I wouldn't have paid $50 on canal street for it. They dropshop $80 watches and charge you $400 for them. Be warned.

Yeah the prices were pretty high but I guess I was hoping it was because they had eta/valjoux or some other Swiss movements.... Just wishful thinking I guess, my only concern is not wanting my rep to completely die on me after 6 months. And sapphire would be nice too :)

Over 30000 people have joined RWI.
Imagine how many have searched for quality reps - way more googling trhan you'll ever achieve.
If it's out there, it's already been found and is known here.
You're not going to discover something new that's better, cheaper etc.
What you will find are hundreds of scam sites trying to take your $$.

Save the effort - it's been done already.

welcome to RWI!

If that is really your only concern you are gonna love it here. These may be reps but that doesn't make em any less quality and reliable than any "swiss made" watch and unless you are buying an under $100 rep, sapphire is pretty much a standard.

There are many reps with actually swiss ETA's in them... just gotta buy them off a member or just do it yourself! The 2836 ETA clones are just as reliable as their swiss made counterpart but if you really want swiss... that is definitely not out of the question!

good luck, read up, and enjoy.

P.S. read the stickies!

the dealers on this site will get you better quality watches than that site will send you for a far cheaper price. Stick to the dealers here, do some research and read the "Top 10 lies about replica watches" thread. Dont get burned buying from a scam site.

Wow thanks for the heads up then guys, I appreciate it.

Btw tokeyx whats kind of watch is that in your pic? It's very interesting.

I've read about how a lot of the guys on here will buy a rep and little by little replace parts in it with gen parts (or something closer to gen parts) I'm sure it requires a skill set that I couldn't even begin to imagine, but if I hope to eventually do that, what would you guys recommend I do to get started?

First step is to order a proper set of watchsmithing tools! Offshore sells them pretty cheap for a full kit. The biggest mistake you can make is to start tearing into a watch you plan to keep without the proper tools IMHO

Just have to be willing to ruin a few along the way. I'm an absolute bull in a china shop when it comes to small delicate things, and even I have learned how to do a few minor things. I'm sure you can do it...

You'll also need to take a course to learn how to work on watches. TimeZone has a good one.

As for Swiss reps - they do not exist as you now know. Also, Swiss movements in reps can often be crap. I have a couple that appear to be the real deal, but you can never be sure.

As for Asian clone movements, they tend to be extremely reliable for the most part (the A7750 excluded). Most people here have Asian clone movement watches which have run many many years trouble-free and keep quite good time - myself included.

Fear not, and don't fall into the trap of thinking you must pay $450-900 to get a "decent" rep watch. That's all sales hype. I suggest you read a lot and ask questions. Pick a nice non-chrono watch you like to start with and budget $300 or less. Order one from a good noob-friendly dealer, have patience, and then tell us how completely blown away you are by the quality when it arrives.

Welcome!
