If its post 2003 the code will be UNDER the balance wheel on the mainplate... it'll be visible and can be photographed/read with loupes :)

Mine for example is a 2008 movement! I usually don't bother checking the codes as it's a hassle but interesting nonetheless.

I wonder if all the 'swiss' movements are ones repaired by ETA... or are ebauches

I need some help understanding something.... It seems that the general consensus is if its not a novodiac spring its a clone? I understand if it does have a novodiac spring its a gen with 99.98% certainty cause if it was a clone somebody had to personally mod it which isn't worth the hassle.

I've been trying to educate myself on this issue and found many Swiss ETAs with a standard incabloc spring which seems to be found in our clones... or am I wrong? Do the factories use some special kif spring or something cause I dont see how this is a "tell"

Yeah, I was hoping you were going to say that. Could you take a look at my fail of a thread "what your eta shouldn't look like " posted a while back and tell me if my eta is a Swiss or clone.

Somebody said it was a clone due to the kif spring....

Sorry for no link... I'm on tapatalk and its not easy linking.

Cool. Thanks smidsy!

Can you explain how you could tell? I'm just trying to learn so I don't have to post a movement shot every time I'm unsure. :)

shock is not 'pointed' enough, 1 recess (gen has 3), stamps are poor, colour is off, reverser has incorrect second wheel, rotor is cloned (font, markings off), stamp for the etachron adjustment is off.

Just came across this thread and it has been very useful indeed, thanks all, especially Smidsy.

In regards to ordering a Swiss ETA, but receiving a cheap/old clone, is this something that is a common problem even with the trusted dealers here on the site? e.g. Lay?

I'm looking to pick up the Omega UPO from ReplicaMake (http://www.replicamake88.com/produc...CEAN-45-MM-ULTIMATE-SWISS-ETA-2824-BLACK.html) and as you can see there is the option of both the Swiss ETA and the Asian ETA. I've read on these forums that people would generally advice against paying extra for a Swiss ETA as they may just be clones. I guess I could post an image on here of the movement from the QC pics just to double check with the community.

Would it be worth while paying the extra $50 for this so called 'Swiss' version or shall I just opt for the Asian one? I'm not at the stage where I can tell the difference between the two movements, so if anyone here has any tips/insight please share!

Thanks all.
