Hey Experts / Watchsmith / Watch Makers,

I'm trying to do a movement swap from a 2813 to a 4813... My guy says he needs a 4813 with a higher hand stack. Where would I find that?

He says he can't find it at cousins.uk

Those are rarer than sightings of the Loch Ness monster. I don't think you'll be able to find them around anymore. I've heard that the 2836 will work, but we're talking extra expense for ETA.

Will he need different hands for the 2836?

2836's can go for $80 for a non ETA branded movement to around $140 for a supposedly genuine Swiss ETA. Don't know if it will actually work or not for your situation. What type of hands are you looking for?

EDIT>>> Okay just saw your post, It's for a Sub, right? If you really like the watch, you should try a 2836 swap in there. ETA hands are readily available. I think I got my ETA Mercedes hands for my Explorer 1 from wholesaleoutlet. I know of at least two or three other ebay sellers who have them too.

This was the sub from the $58 Timeshop deal... so what do you think is cheaper.. swap it w/ another 2813 or to return to timeshop for another one?

Swapping it for a replacement 2813 can be done for around $30 with shipping included, from Ofrei.

If you get another $58 Sub from Mark, you will have a spare parts watch. You can sell off the bracelet and maybe some other parts to recoup some of your costs. It's really up to you how you want to proceed,

But, the quickest and cheapest way is the get the replacement movement from Ofrei.

As I stated in the the other post, your choices are limited...

All watch parts has the 2813 for a lot less the Ofrei - $15.95. They charge about $5 for shipping CONUS via first class. - http://www.allwatchparts.com/Chinese-Automatic-Mechanical-Movement-CHDG2813_p_925.html

Again, if you go the ETA clone route, you can find it from the same dealer for about $75 plus another $10 for hands from fleabay. Or the Sellita SW200 link I forwarded you is $110.

Information is the same, you really should just think about which route you want to go with ~ good luck

thanks aratron... was wondering when you would chime in.. couldn't find that thread you did.

I don't really know what this hand stack deal is... but is there a workaround?

Yes and no.

Hands for 2813 are 100/150/17mm
Hands for 2836/2824 are 90/150/25mm

As you can see, they are only off slightly ... but that still is incompatible. To my understanding, you can crimp larger holes slightly smaller and drill smaller holes larger... personally, I have never done it so I can not comment on how difficult it is. But if the hands are about $10, it is simply not worth the trouble. So yes, there is workaround but not worth it.

Just realized that what you meant to say about the hand stack are referring to the height not sizes...

I was thinking about this problem as well. I really feel that the 2813 canon pinion could probably be swap into a 4813. I've been meaning to try this but never got around to it. I really hate to open the front movement cover since there are two hella small springs in the calendar complication that ALWAYS fly off. If I get around to it, I let you know. But this is not easy by any means, you are better off buying a 2836 or 2813 all together.

I swap the taller parts to the new movement all the time. No issues, and you can reuse existing hands.

i've crimped and reamed hand holes (only the seconds hand) and it's a hit and miss. crimp too hard or ream to far, and that's it. The hole is a gonner.

if u want a cheap 2813 movement buy a soki automatic watch from ebay 15bux free shipping

http://cgi.ebay.ca/New-SOKI-Automat...523344686?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item2c5c13872e

cheaper than ofrei for the movement and you get a crappy caseset to go with it!

that description doesn't actually specify that it is a dg2813 movement. Not all 2813 movements have the same handstack. there are at least 3 or 4 different manufacturers of low beat equivalents of the dg2813's
