Replicas prices: when expensive is too expensive?

Like the original poster, I have trouble justifying some of the high-end reps out there. When I see some of those prices, I start considering lower-end Swiss gens like Oris instead. However, I am building a vintage piece now that will cost way more than any other rep I own plus it has been a ton of work. As was already said, I guess it just depends on how bad you want something.

Expensive, maybe.... I look at what I'm saving now vs. Gen.

In the old days i would obsess over a Gen Rolex or Pam and and save & spent a ton. Now that money goes towards more family fun. (I still get the watch i wanted and more.)

Really try to limit myself now to one big (plus $500) a year for something extraordinary. The rest averages out to be about $200 per item. So, not so expensive if you have bought your share of gens.

Just my thoughts....

yes, this is the point. Instead of an expensive replica someone could consider some lower end swiss.
Another point: i see very often the price of the replica is related to the price of the gen, and buyers justify the price of the replica compared to gen's prices: imho this doesn't make much sense and i'm afraid that this will bring the replica average price always higher.
An example is the mentioned B&R br03-88: great watch indeed, but it's difficult to justify a $600 price for a watch that original can be bought for $2500 and that has a quartz movement.

Hey V, my collection is very similar to yours. I bought a Blingling BO1 for $300 which I love - even a year on it still stuns me. I've just ordered a BK DSSD for $420 and my next watch will be an AP ROO for $500 tho we will need a further $2-300 for a hornback strap. Most I've spent is $700 on a Hublot Ice Bang but it is truly amazing and was worth it.

So for the AP could cost $800 which is a lot for a rep, tho the gen of this is over $15k ,and when you consider a second hand ebay steelfish costs $1400ish its more than half. But my thinking is that I want the watches I want and I just save up/sacrifice an extra month or three to get the rep I want and nearly all of them from now on will cost $400 plus.
