New RED RADAR (Baselworld 2011)

new from Basel...Limited edition of 999 pieces. Price will be around 5500 USD...

For me it looks like a toywatch...

Movement: self-winding mechanical - ETA 2892. Disc display system.

Functions: hours, minutes and seconds.

Case: 46 mm diameter. Stainless steel, black PVD* finish. Screw-in crown.

Dial-index: Radar screen display made up of three black concentric discs.

Note: The markings on the outside disc indicate the hours, the middle disc the minutes and the central disc the seconds.

Crystal: red tinted mineral reinforced with a protective layer. Hour and minute graduation.

Water-resistance: 100 meters.

Straps: rubber and heavy-duty canvas.

also there's a Radar from last year still at my AD - I can't tell the time personally but It's cool.

I think the red one is an improvement over the tri-colour, but I agree that it's still not easy to read. My main issue is that the minute hand is always longer than the hour hand on a watch, but on this the 'longer' hand is the hour hand!

Still not sure about this one, would like to have seen it more thin band like and less thick edge fading out look if that makes sense?

I like the concept, just not the execution. I think part of the problem is trying to make a mechanical display emulate an electronic display. Kind of the opposite of those watches that display an analog watch face using an LCD.

What would be cool would be a lcd display that looks like a radar display that has the second sweep around and dots indicating hour and minute would brighten up when the second hand hit their position. Definitely a novelty piece however.
And I agree, this would look much better in green.

if I try it and don't like it I'll just get a 126 heritage the other offerings at basel whilst nice are not for me ...
