Looking for a good BR01-94 (PVD?)

Hello Smidsy and other B&R enthusiasts...

Can you please give me some pointers as to where one would find the "best" br01-94 rep?

I hate the term "best" as it is so subjective, but in this case I guess I mean a compromise between looks, and reliability of movement, etc... (I have read around and I'm aware of the screw vs "fake screw" cases, serial numbers, is the 7750 the best option? would some other mvmt be more reliable? etc)...

I have looked at some of the replicas with screw-in backs, which are about $350-$380, however I'm having a hard time finding this particular model in stock in several trusted dealers. I have e-mailed and live chatted to about 3 and even saw a thread on here commenting on a possible lack of production?

To make matters "worse" my preference would be for the black /pvd & orange or black & red, even though I'm aware the black ones are off from the gens, and the le's have a different back... I'd also settle for a good PVD/white dial one if that were available...

Any idea? Does anyone have a new/like-new one they want to sell?

Thanks!

Just been through this very dilemma! Smidsy was as always very helpful.
Its sounds like you want chrono? If not there a couple of dealers who have the 01-94 in stock with plain face with white hands, no chrono, no date and screw backs. I just ordered one with white face in PVD. Will have to have to treat the PVD though to try to gen it up a bit. I'm hoping a polish on my polishing rig will help here...Will soon find out lol.

If you want as gen as possible get a 7750 and change it to an eta 7753. Its not a stock item but its a relativly (so I'm reliably told) :) swap. Not going to be cheap though. Hope this helps. Smidsy will be along soon to give the definitive word I'm sure :D

Guys, I had the same dilemma of yours and I came to the following conclusion: sourcing and modding (AR, genlike lume, polished screwheads) a good BR01 to look quite genlike is costing around 600usd with an asian clone movement and stock replica strap. Adding these last two will push the price of your watch easily above 1k usd.

I think that sourcing a used and genuine BR01 cost you around 2k usd, max 3k. And then we are talking about a replica which is around 30 but rather close to 50% of the genuine's price!

I do really think that its not worth it, rather go for a good quality out pf the box replica and try to do some minor mods on it with a local watchsmith/modder, or leave as is.

OR

Try to go for a used genuine, its not that expensive IMHO. Only problem is sourcing it.....

Your ideas?

I wouldnt go all the way to 600-1k... I'd go around maybe 500 at most.... I dont even think I'd go for pvd re-treatment, re-lume, AR, etc...

I just meant something which doesnt look too "goofy" (I think the fake screws look kinda silly if you ask me), and something which can last in terms of movement (even if it means some preventive maintenance)... I'd read that a quartz movement would be infintely more reliable? and I did look a little bit around for a unit with working chrono and quartz mvmt, but only found a couple for around 120-140 with fake screws...

I am really new and dont want to get into the full modding right now... I might even actually get a B&R in the future, but I think that a rep for now is a good alternative, I'm really unsure whether i "love" this watch enough, or if it is just a "novelty" item for me... I've been eyeing it for several years but always though "I cant really see myself dispensing all this cash for a 'toy'...that is why I'm really looking for the orange one preferably, going for the flashiest I can to really try out the experience..." I hope this makes sense"

he'll get you a good one...

swapping to a 7753 is preferable to cure the recessed datewheel and then you're all set :)

SMIDSY: The recessed datewheel? Is that referring to to the reps that have the silver trim around the date on the dial, or is it really recessed?

It seems difficult to find a reasonably priced used/pre-owned BR...I can't even find a used/pre-owned rep!

Sunken datewheel, you can see from the image the datewheel sits quite far back from the date window. This is a 03-94 but you should get the idea :)

I just got my BR01-94 yesterday in the mail. It's a SS case with white dial. I got it from Mary who is a trusted dealer on RWG. I know she's not one on this site, but I'm already in love with mine. Her service was excellent.
