Well, got up at 6am and headed to work Friday at 7am, just like any other Friday, and about 14:48 local time in Yokosuka Japan, we got hit pretty hard. Shook our 3 story, very thick walled and sturdy near bomb proof Gov building enough to toss things off the shelves and make the trees sway hard outside.
My buddy and I ran down the stair well from third floor and I caught some of the quake on my iPhone4. A 1:12 footage. It's not the most horrific, but it certainly shows things moving. And it was a bit difficult to keep still. In total we got shook on the initial quake for at least a two minutes straight through.
We then went back upstairs to work and the first aftershock hit us for another minute or so and was as bad as the first. That's when we said Efff this we're going home!! Hahahaha FAT CHANCE!!
Never ever have I seen the Japanese train system shut down here for anything, let alone the entire public trans system. Hell train suicides are cleared up in no time, they have that clean up down to a near science. No buses, no trains, and cabs were non-existent, heck even the freeways and toll roads were shut down. Auto traffic was a mess.
My buddy dropped me off at the station and it was a dead stand still. Long story short, I live in Yokohama, by the time I got home it was almost 3am. House had some floor damage from my stuff falling off shelves and all. Nothing major.
My wife is fine also, and she was fortunately visiting family in the Philippines and not in a danger zone too. I was really worried about the tsunami hitting there. At this point, I have nothing much to complain about compared to the poor people how have and are suffering more than myself.
I'm watching the Japan news now and it's pretty bad north of us where the major hit areas are. There were last night even when I got home and still are aftershocks, and I'm feeling that in Yokohama now so I can only imagine the scale up north.
Well, my prayers go out to those hit most.
Have to go clean up my own mess now...
