What made you want to buy a Rolex? Do you own other brands of watches or are you happy with just Rolex. Myself I am 35 years old and liked watches since my early 20's I had Mavodos and Tags but it was always a Rolex that I dreamed of owning. I thought Rolex was a old mans watch and that when I was 50 I would buy one. I was going to buy a Grand Carrer 36s Before I bought it I thought I would just take a look at Rolex and I saw the DSSD it was big like I wanted and really spoke to me. I was never into Breitling I thought they were to big and gaudy for my taste. As soon as I tried on the DSSD I knew I had to buy it. I have seen watches I will probably never buy because I could not see me spending $30,000 on a watch buy if I really do well who knows but I would be happy owning the DSSD for the rest of my life and be happy with it. So is Rolex the grail you wanted or are their others you want me that you would really see yourself buying?

Too many grails out there for me...
I own Rolex (gen and rep) because of the understated class, sophistication, and reputation. And they really do wear well and comfortably.
I also own others - a few reps and a lot of gens. Some expensive, some cheap, some new, some vintage.
The watch I most aspire to own is the next watch I don't already own.

Hey, Johnny!

You ask a lot of very good questions! Great! For myself, luxury, style, precision, excellence always meant Rolex. They were always out of my reach, until my wife bought me a gen. TT DateJust, with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. A gift from Heaven; after that, I wanted more but they'd have to be reps because the gen was a one-shot deal. After being scammed, I found my way to here and have been in rep Heaven since. A lot of purchases were for all types of Rolexes; but being here, reading the posts, looking at the pics, I expanded my ... uh... lust for more & have been introduced to watches I've never even heard of, like Panerai. Since then, I've been diversified in my collecting, love it, and has a thirst for more... .

I own both gen and rep Rolex and Omega. I find those vintage models are time tested. My oldest vintage is from 1956 and still running strong as a daily wearer.

Before I got into watches, Rolex was the only high-end brand I knew or heard about. A friend of mine had a cheap fake Rolex back in the early 70's. I don't know if they even repped any other brand back then or not. Once I got involved in forum life I really started to learn about some of the other brands like Omega, Cartier, and IWC. I like manual wind watches too, so that was a natural inclination into the Panerai brand. My first Rolex rep was an SD, that I bought 5 years ago. Every brand is so unique and distinct, it's hard for me to say I prefer one over another.

Bond... James Bond. When I was 11 my Mom brought me to her work and, because I was bored as hell, I wandered out of the office building to have a little adventure. I happened across an old bookstore that had the entire Bond series of books in paperback for 10 cents each. I rushed back to my Mom and asked for $2 then ran back to the store to buy all of the books. Spent my whole summer reading them all in sequence. Along with all the other things I "learned" (thank you Ian Fleming) from those books, I discovered Bond wore a Rolex. That is my earliest recollection of what a Rolex was and I have coveted the watch ever since.

I grew up idolizing Rolex watches. It's a symbol of success and prestige. Of course, the reality is that there are so many other more expensive watches. But to the average person, Rolex is the most well known high end watch.

i have always loved the design of Rolex, its a nice sleek yet classy time piece and if i won the lotto i would have 2 gens and a shed load of reps. the gens would be the gen of my rep, and a YG DD no stones just gold.

i have looked at other watches but for me Rolex is the only ones i would buy and own.

I like to wear Rolex (GENS & REPS) because they are comfortable and appealing to me. I think they have gotten to be my favorite watch of all.
