Hi guys I was wondering are their any of you that own the Replica and Gen of the same watch? The reason I am asking is I want to know if the feel of the watch is the same or the build quality that can be felt in your hand.

I know some watches are made of of special steel like the DSSD does the Replica and the Gen have a different feel in your hands. This goes for any Rolex watch though can you tell the difference with your eyes closed.

Lol, that is true, most reps with the correct movement would still fool me if I didn't study them in ultimate detail.
Have you got any other pics of your gen DSSD? Even if it's off your phone, would love to see it.

I have both the GEN and REP Rolex GMT... I wear the REP for a beater and the GEN for going out... They feel the same - there are very settle differences and one can hardly tell. I have thought about selling my GEN and going straight REP, but since I already have it, I figured I might well keep it.

Honestly, with the quality and appearance of the REP now a days, it is hard to spend those thousands for the GENS anymore.

I have a gen Tudor Prince Oysterdate and a Franken Tudor that is identical except for band. The Gen is a bit more comfortable to wear due to the "slinky" folded link Oyster bracelet. If I ever get around to putting a gen band on the Franken I won't be able to tell them apart. I wear the Franken more than the Gen...

I want to buy a really good one and see the difference. Then I will sell it to a member here at a good discount :)

Nah, don't sell it. Wear the rep like you're the Jacques Cousteau of panties (a little nod to gioarmani) and keep that $8-10,000 beauty secured. It's an investment; an art piece. Wear it on that "special" occasion. That quality rep will get you through your day to day quite handily.

I appreciate what your saying but I bought my watch for me because I worked my tail off to get it and it reminds me of it every day.

Rolex is a tool watch, it gains character over time. Wtf is the point in spending that sort of money and not wearing it as much as possible. Buying shit as an investment never made sense to me. Wear the crap out of it and enjoy it I say :)

Gen and Rep DateJust

Hi, Johnny!

Briefly, I have both a gen DateJust (see my avatar & some pics on the Eyecandy section) and its rep equvialent. Now, I usually buy economy watches so the rep. DateJust doesn't weigh the same as my gen -- and you can tell the difference by feeling the bracelets side-by-side. The rep's face looks pretty good; only with a loupe would you notice some subtle differences. (NOTE: Pics of the TT rep and its SS brother are posted in Eyecandy, under "My Saver DateJusts"). When going to "rough" places or working outside, I'll wear the rep; when going out and on weekends, then it's the gen. Overall, some subtle differences exist, but only a dedicated rep Forum member or Rolex fanatic would be able to tell the difference between the two.

Just my .02

Thank you Dave I was wondering if their was much of a difference in feel. I agree when you spend so much on a watch you really do want to wear it all the time.

I have a Gen super ocean from about 4 years ago. I picked up a Seawolf and did a little review http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/yellow-seawolf-from-hont-60375?t=60375.

Now, I know there not the same watch but I also know what your talking about and want to know.....is the build quality similar? The truth is exept for some minor details the built quality is superb. It's the final details that make all the diffence.

It's the same with the DSSD. Pearl, date font, lume, ect. Are all minor issues that we rep freaks all make a real big deal over, but trust me when I tell you, a blind man could not tell the diffence between a Gen DSSD and a V5 or similar.

I think of a tool watch as being like a Marathon SAR. They're about $5-600 which can be construed as a lot for a watch. They look great, run a Swiss 2824 and you can beat the crap out of them which is their intended use. With submariners running about $5-6000 and a DSSD running $8-10,000 I can't help but think of these as investments. Even my wife would take the rocks of her finger if she were to do anything that might harm that investment. Frankly, I just don't have that much money lying around to cover the cost if I drag the face across a rock wall or drop it into the ocean, etc:. And, yes, I know what insurance is.

I appreciate what your saying but I bought my watch for me because I worked my tail off to get it and it reminds me of it every day.

Johnny, I can appreciate you "working your tail off" but it's $8-10,000 F***ING DOLLARS!! Having it in a winder for whenever you want it can be a reminder too.

If i spent the money on a Gen I would wear that watch every single day. Change up the strap sometimes depending on situations, but goddamn it would get worn. Otherwise wtf is the point in spending the money on it. Rolex's are NOT an investment these days. They make about 1million watches a year. If you're lucky then you can make back your initial expenditure. Go look at chrono24.com and check out Sub's, Explorers etc on there. You can get an Explorer 1 for about £2k, you can get a Milgauss for about £3k. Much below what RRP is. Why? Because they make loads of them.

Sure if you spend £5k on a black SS sub. In 5 years it might cost £10k to replace due to inflation and price hikes. But if you can only sell the one you own for £4-5k then you've made bugger all. The only investment pieces are the rare and low volume ones. Special editions and the like. A sub or a DSSD is not going to be a money making purchase.

It's not an investment, but they depreciate very little. If you wear it everyday, you will be spending some coin maintaining it too. My best friend sends his Rolex in for a full service every year. He has 2 of them that he rotates, along with 2 Breitling Bentleys. So keep that in mind.
