i called my WS yesterday to find out how far along he is with my DJ, he said he is having problems. he completed the service and after doing what he needed to do he removed the stem to assemble the watch and the winding gear fell apart. he said he has come across this quite a few times.

is this common on a 2824-2?
or is this a trait of a Asia repaired 2824?

happens to all watchmakers at some-point - the keyless is fragile on the 28XX series....

got a pic of the movement?

happy to look it over to verify it's 'swiss'

just uploading a couple of images now. i will edit one and it seems strange, the movement is stamped 2836-2 which is a day date movement yet its a date just watch unless the day ring is hiding behind the dial?

I call clone or 'franken' if you prefer.....

erm no 2836 are common for some reason in reps. I assume it's so they can buy a LOAD of the movements and as the 2824/2836 are interchangeable it means they can use the 2836 for both thus by economies of scale keeping prices down :(

hmmmm okay well it's been serviced?

hahaha thanks mate, its in the hands of my WS has been for a few weeks now, the first week the shop was being redecorated so no watch repairs that week i think he started it last weds. i have faith in the guy.....kinda! but!

i am looking for a reliable DD movement for the DD i have.... what's the price mate what's the price? oh it was 21j and i will be putting a gen dial in this so when the time comes...along with some spendables i will send you a dial if you wanna do the rest? take into account it is a 21j case. needs a movement will need hands if i can upgrade from 21j? and day/date rings.

but that will be a couple of weeks maybe months away yet i am broke!

I have this movement in a franken Datejust it's a vintage ETA 2846 17J movement out of Rolex rep I bought in 1989. My watch maker guy (rep board friend) built a rep of a 16234 from a rep 16013....This movement needed serviceing too and the winding gear was seated wrong (from someone at sometime) and was bent with 6 teeth stripped. The movemnt keeps good time but doesn't wind but the gear is on order. It's a pretty cool franken built and a cool movement even though it beats at 21,600.
