The thread I get asked to do the most!
Here we have a comparison between the BR03-92 gen and the re-lumed rep
enjoy - despite it not looking amazing a surprising amount of effort goes into these....
so from any distance and without them side-by-side no-one will call you out. Period. but now let's start finding 'flaws'. Gen is always on the right.
dial printing is good and clean, caseback is accurate and well engraved
Here is where we can start nit picking; gen has a much cleaner smoother satin effect, engravings are very deep, clean and very 'sharp'. Minor font differences but nothing that screams 'fake'.
the infamous 'side on'. As you can see the rep is thicker than the gen but the difference actually isn't that much... Lugs are different as is the 'bezel' thickness. Crown is more defined and cleaner on gen
The dial 'ticks' are shorter on the rep where the 4 face screws are. This I think was incorrectly copied from an 01-92. Note the differences in finish to the satin, and the screws.
Straps: so the gen is more flexible than the rep but the rep strap is of good quality. Font is off on rep strap and the gen has a centred '&' logo and is generally more 'defined'
the dial is shinier on the re- the numerals are slightly stretched too. Note the differences in finish on the gen with polished HQ screws and a lovely satin brush. The rep doesn't compete with it here.
Datefont - I was surprised with the gens datefont... as I prefer the reps! as you can see the datefont is off... not by a lot but it is worth noting.
the other 'side on' - here we can see there is a marked difference in where the top 'half' meets the bottom.
AR: well the gen is single AR so don't expect anything like a breitling's no glass effect. BUT the rep has a much more distinct 'tint' to it, it's much less effective AR but is much more blue... i actually would rather it had NO AR.
Overall thoughts:
Back when this was released reps were of a much lower quality. We have since moved on and 'super reps' are becoming more and more common. Personally I think this is a good rep - on par with a good starter rep such as a n00bmariner or a n00b DSSD. The problem is that at its price point there are other 'starter' reps which are more accurate than this...
Will anyone call you out? no. Unless you meet me on the street :lol:
Does it wear well? Yes.
overall therefore I think a 70/100 score would be reasonable- a good rep, relatively cheap and a good beater
