Just bought my first rep, a Ceramic Submariner from timeshops. Very happy with the details compared to a gen. I got the asian copy movement, my question is if i would have gotten the swiss eta movement would the sweeping hand be smoother?

Not necessarily if you got the model with the 28880bph... I cannot tell the difference - and I am referring to a GEN.

If you got the Asian clone 2836, then it should sweep just like the gen (or very very close).

If it isn't, it is possible (emphasis on possible) that it may need a little servicing.

The visual sweep should be the same. I can't tell the difference between the sweep on those two movements.

The sweep should be the same. I'm just quadruply confirming that.

It also should be the same as the gen.

Just on a side note, look at the watch from more than a two feet away, and you probably won't notice the ticks at all.

There's not really much point in ordering and paying for a Swiss ETA. This has been discussed to death and is in the newb stickies in the flame free and general discussion forums.

1: it's not guaranteed you actually get swiss movement
2: Asian clone is just as good as ETA
3: Even if it's Swiss there's a very good chance it's still got rep parts in it
4: Asian clone is just as good as ETA... (i know i said it twice)

I have several ETA 2824, 2892 and 2836. I also have an Asian 4813, a 7750 and a 7753. I can not see any diff in sweep. My 7750 and the 7753 are Pams so the second hand is very small compared to the real ETA's. The 4813 is in a B&R 03-92. I really love the B&R BTW. :) Still, with that I can see no diff.

Not to go against the current, but I CAN see a difference between my Swiss ETA 2824 and my Asian clone 2836-2. That said, the clone has not been serviced, as a prior poster has suggested. I expect that when the clone poops out and I have to serviced, it will beat just like the Swiss ETA.

And just to say it, the Swiss ETAs have been confirmed; they are not the franken-Swiss variety as alluded to in earlier posts.

So...I think your quality guarentee is to get it serviced, no matter what flavor you opt for.

Not sure how you do that, sice they're both 8 beats/second.

The OP stated he got the Asian Copy Movement, everyone miss that? Asian copy of what exactly?

Some good advice is to get the Asian Copy of the ETA, not to pay for the Asian Copy of the Rolex movement

Half the fun is doing the reseach.Pick a couple of the trusted dealers and compare price and descriptions. And then read reviews on the dealers and watches.
Cheers

I do it by holding both watches next to each other, and looking at them with my eyes. Just because they are both 8 beat/sec, does not mean that accomplish those beats with the same fluidity. My gen ETA 2824 is noticeably smoother than my jerky Asian clone 2836-2. As I stated above, it could be any combo of:
  1. One is Swiss, one is Asian;
  2. One is a 2824, the other a GMT-modified 2836-2; and/or
  3. One may have a better service/oiling from the factory.
In any event, the ETA, gen or clone is a solid mov't. Some just might require a bit of repair or service to get them working good for the long haul. I've had many that didn't, and the one Asian clone did. Just my results.

Nevertheless, stay away from the stupid "Rolex clone" movement, or any Rolex GMT/Explorer II with the "correct hand stack" as they are timebombs.
