I picked a new in wrapper Explorer from a member,it's a replicamake high beat, looks pretty good. Then I was on the Rolex official site looking for a nice pick to post on one of my post of a watch I'm trying to find for my wife so I looked up the Explorer and compared the watch to gen pics and noticed right out the crown was way wrong I mean not even close!!!The I went to Google rep sites and couldn't believe that sites selling the $99 specials had the correct(or a hell of a lot closer)crown! What gives????????????I could see not putting a "100%" correct crown on a watch with crown guards but put a completely wrong one on a guardless case that I don't get??

Should have done a little homework!! Would have avoided your disappointment .
Rep factories can never be relied upon to make 1-1 reps so why did you think this would be?

100% understood!!But if you reread my post I simply post the question if a $99 rep can have correctish crown on a guardless case why can a "better rep have one!I'm not talking slight alignment problem with a pearl or a number on a bezel I'm talking a big right in your face screw up that screams REP just at a glance!!

You could try ordering one of those $99 Explorers. See if what you receive is what was shown on the website.

I think you guys are missing my point...these are reps yes I get that, not copied 1 to 1 yes I get that also! But look at the effort that has been put into the subs & GMTs over the years and now the DSSD they have so many more details that have to be copied just to get it close to a gen.I know also these are probably the best sellers hence the expanded effort to rep them and an Explorer is I'm sure way down the list. All that being said the Explorer is a very simple watch just the dial and hand set and the crown basically,,,I bet it's even the same case and crown used on the smooth bezel 36mm DateJust!Just saying even the cheapest rep should pass the glance test.

My point in the previous post is that you're comparing your rep in hand with a picture you saw on a website (link?), which may be a photo of a more expensive rep or even a photo of a gen.

But here's a new point for you: The rep you have PASSED the glance test. I quote: "looks pretty good". You didn't notice how flawed it was until after you went on the official Rolex website.

Good point LHOOQ... Mostly all people who even notice your watch still will not know... You can let them hold it and examine it and IF they are not doing aN ACTUAL 1 to 1 comparison, they still won't know...

If you don't know, then you don't know.

Not so I knew there was something not right and the gen pics just proved it for me.Just one other thing, did a quick ebay search mens Rolex and one thing that is consistent for all models of Rolexs for about the last 40 years(long before reps came out) is the basic shape of the crowns, some might be bigger or wider but all have the same basic end design that has a "cap"with the Rolex crown design. My gen Master IIs crown is a 6mm and it steps down to a 5mm cap.I'm sure all other models are just about the same,,my rep doesn't have a step/cap!

You are focused on details. Good. Or bad...

Let me fast-forward your rep experience and fill you in on a couple other things you'll pick apart:
-You see those Submariner-style 'Mercedes' hands on your Explorer? They've been used by Rolex since the 1950s, but no vintage rep has ever gotten the dimensions right. Ever.
-That case that you rightly suspect is the same as the ones used on nearly every other 36mm Datejust rep? The dimensions and shape are off. Find pictures of the real thing and look at how the lugs curve. You'd think the DJ would be a no-brainer by now, but the contours are different, and the rep won't take a genuine crystal.
-Let's not even get started on the bracelet, the dial, &c. &c.

Either live with it or do something about it.

Well LHOOQ just one more post before I stop beating this dead horse, but AGAIN you are missing my point!Reps have gone way past the novelty item.."look at me I got a Rolexx"the one you got to fool your neighbor to "look at my new Rolex"the one you get and fool your business partner!I'm not talking fractions of MMs,slops I'm just talking if you had a good rep in one hand and a gen in the other hand with them far enough apart that you had to take your eye off one to look at the other one you'd be hard pressed to tell the apart at a glance!CJ out!!!

I don´t know if I should laugh or cry...

I pity you. You should be able to enjoy your nice rep.
The rep that you bought and were satisfied and happy for.
Happy. Until you discovered the tiny flaw at the crown.

Please, forget about it.
Just stop looking at it. -I´m sure others woun´t. :)
Enjoy your new watch, It is a beautiful watch!

If you are going to be that picky that you feel that an incorrect crown ruins all the fun, you woun´t be able to enjoy this hobby.

Take a deep breath, look at your nice watch again, accept the incorrect crown, and enjoy the watch! :)

Please, come down on earth.
You don´t buy reps to impress anyone.
You buy the rep, -as it looks, because you like the watch!
Regardless if the dial was up side down, if you like the watch, it has lived up to its expectations, and all is well. Right? :)

I picked a new in wrapper Explorer from a member,it's a replicamake high beat, looks pretty good.

-ReplicaMake, one of our Trusted Dealers, though I should make a comment that if this is a $100 watch, it was more likely to have come from his "economy" site called ReplicaMade.

Then I was on the Rolex official site looking for a nice pick to post on one of my post of a watch I'm trying to find for my wife so I looked up the Explorer and compared the watch to gen pics and noticed right out the crown was way wrong I mean not even close!!!

-Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! The famous NOOB mistake! Doing their research AFTER they purchase a watch for Gen comparison. Seriously? You are upset with anyone besides yourself for this?

-Second NOOB mistake: Thinking that a $100 watch (or anything else for that matter) is going to be 100% accurate. Yes, there are some that are very close, even excellent, but expectations need to be realistic. Look long enough and you'll find something that needs to be modded, fixed, or is just plain wrong.

The I went to Google rep sites and couldn't believe that sites selling the $99 specials had the correct(or a hell of a lot closer)crown!

-Um, should have done this first?

What gives????????????

Different factories make different quality. Often times you'll find that they put together what they can with what's easily available knowing that people won't do their homework first.

I could see not putting a "100%" correct crown on a watch with crown guards but put a completely wrong one on a guardless case that I don't get??

-Oy..... At least you can find a replacement on eBay or elsewhere and have it replaced. Sorry, but can't find any sympathy for you on this one. You had the chance to see the watch and ask questions before purchasing, just like everyone else. Calm down, realize the lesson learned, learn to take personal responsibility for your actions, and see this as an opportunity to learn. :)

Cool! This is the first time I've actually watched someone's rep go from green to red. :)

If you don't like it sell it.
I hate getting reps with flaws or bad pearls or any other defect but I know that this hobby is like that.
Now you also know.
You will do more research, ask more questions, start thinking about modding watches or you'll get sick of buying watches that aren't like the gen.

I hope the OP isnt actually mad/upset at the seller because he didnt do his homework.....to the OP some cheap replicas have certain parts more accurate sometimes then the same model in a more expensive version. this isnt always the case but it is known to happen. enjoy your new watch anyways!

As the seller of this rep, I'm saddened by this thread. Actually, it makes me feel terrible to be honest. Real terrible. :(

Thinkbachs, it was purchased at replicamake (not the cheaper site).

I do want to mention that in our pm's, I made a point of mentioning that the crown was off on a couple other issues. Not specifically my watch mind you, but in the rep itself. But, I pointed towards the 'rolex crown' facing the wrong direction.

I'm sorry you are not happy with your watch.

Edit***
I want to also say that cjohns was a pleasure to deal with throughout the process and even now. Very considerate towards me.

To add to Marshals post the conversation we had about the crown was not about the correctness of the crown as a part he was under the impression that position of the Rolex crown design didn't "park correctly"(watch laying flat the crown should point up to the 12 o clock posistion)when I told him that gens didn't even do that, that was the end of tha conversation.
