I like!

The movement itself is nothing new but I did not know Rolex used one. Check out the Bulova Accutron and Precisionist. They are both quartz and have smooth sweeping second hands. ;)

Nice. They either A) have a quartz running @28.8, which will shorten battery life (new battery technology may make this possible, or B) have a quartz engine winding the main spring on an automatic movement (which would keep it running unworn for years, but not improve overall accuracy).
Either way, I don't like "Quartz" on the dial. Makes it look like a cheap rep.

No mainspring. And quartz I think runs 32khz not 28.8vph. Interesting movement.

Very interesting post, but I feel the same way as levelmanroger, having "quartz" on the dial of the Rolex does make it look like a rep even though it isn't.

Apparently they only made a limited number of these (I think I saw 999 somewhere)and they will be going up in value.
But its damn smooth! Watch the sec hand swing under the date mag, not even a stutter!

Due to the very limited production numbers on the quartz Rolex, that watch must be worth a fortune .. ....

I've looked for a good rep of this but haven't found one. Personally, I love this, especially the super smooth gliding of the second hand.

yeah, oysterquartz are something Rolex made back in the 70's when quartz were popular. They fetch a pretty price on TZ too. Most people don't realize this.

Thanks, Coop, for the video of this Rolex quartz. I was surprised by the smooth sweeping seconds hand. It reminded me of the new Bulova Precisionist I held in my hands and tried on at a Jewelers. The Precisionist, too, had a very smooth seconds hand. I didn't know Rolex had made these. Thanks again for a fine post and excellent links!

I am wearing my Oysterquartz right now. I have had it since 1989. I love it. Yes it ticks. It ticks accurately and loudly. Sometimes I have to reposition it on the night stand because it will keep me awake.

Odd, since an Oysterquartz doesn't tick, it hums.

Another Quartz Rolex....

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but there were 2 movement types in the OQs. The OG OQs with the "Mark I" did tic, and the updated (Mark II) model didn't.

Accutron is a tuning fork movement, DMC.

OQs are amazing watches, they are thin but beefy with that thick bracelet. I'd love it if they made a 43mm+ model.
