Correct method for setting the date

Hi I am a newbie and as such I want to make sure that I do not mess up the movement in my watch while setting the date.
I have a Pam Luminor Marina 104 with the 7750 movement. Is there any special way to reset the date as the watch assumed that there were 31 days in Sept. as opposed to just 30 days.
I also have the same situation on my BK WM9 YM the watch went to 31 days instead of 30.
Is there any way of avoiding the need to reset the date all of the time? Or is that what a perpetual movement is meant to do?

Thanks evryone for the wonderful forum :)

No way to get around it, but it's only 5 times per year. Just don'tchange it close to midnight while the date change mechanism is engaged.

no way to avoid it, all watches have 31 days on their wheels, they don't know any better.

correct method:

set the time to 6 o'clock
set the date to whatever day it is
then set the time to the correct time

never, ever change the date when the time reads between 9 and 3.

You can also just set the time forward 24 hours, then you don't have to worry about hurting the date change wheel.

+1 to what everyone said.

To be extra safe, it's always best to not set the date with the time between 9:00pm and 3:00am.

Hey, Romulous!

Great ideas here, but here's my .02: I use this method with my automatics which wind down: I set the correct time by advancing the hands covering 24 hours & watch the date change. Then, I set the correct date & use the crown to advance the date (done because there's usually a few days' gap. I found it easier to do this; it may not be the best, but I find it helpful to me. Just my .02.
