I thought I would assemble some tidbits of info that most people might not know about the cigars they are smoking.

The glue that all habanos are assembled with is unaltered maple sap from Canada. Yes the same stuff that is cooked down to make maple syrup. In it's unaltered state it is tasteless.

The glue that holds the band together is a paste made from flour and water.

Cigars that are freshly rolled are almost unsmokable. Those stands you see at resorts where they are rolling cigars and everyone is smoking them. It's o.k. to buy but give them 6 months in your humidor before lighting them up. Most factories place there freshly rolled cigars in a giant humidor for a couple of weeks to several years depending on the brand. In a lot of cases THIS is a major factor in the price of the cigar.

I'm sure I have more in my little head but I have to put the kids to bed. :)

Please add your cool facts as I love useless facts about cigars.

A large cigar has more tobacco than an entire pack of cigarettes.

But none of the lead, arsenic and all that other crap they put in it. A cigar is pure tabacco......period. Don't mess with the S. :)

A good cigar is less poisonous than a pack of cigs, cos you dont breathe in.
Also the hot dog shape is much cooler.

Umm...Not exactly JJ :)

This is the list of 599 additives in cigarettes submitted to the United States Department of Health and Human Services in April 1994. It applies, as documented, only to American manufactured cigarettes intended for distribution within the United States by the listed companies. The five major tobacco companies that reported the information were:
American Tobacco Company
Brown and Williamson
Liggett Group, Inc.
Philip Morris Inc.
R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company
One significant issue is that while all these chemical compounds have been approved as additives to food, they were not tested by burning. Burning changes the properties of chemicals. More than 4,000 chemical compounds are created by burning a cigarette.

The typical cigar is made up of three parts; the filler, binder and wrapper. The filler is bunched up tobacco that fills the cigar. The binder tobacco is wrapped around the filler to keep it nice and compact. The wrapper goes on as the final layer. All three parts are tabacco....so..... ONE ingredient really.

Interesting information frig, I never really new that; even the stuff about burning ingredients creating different chemicals, etc..

Ok maybe, but they are still shaped as hot dogs.

Exactly, and they arent inhaled so no harm to lungs. Hot dogs go straight for the aorta :)
But no hijacking your thread.

Cigars are much cooler than cigarettes, and last longer.

New fun fact!

Cuban labels have invisible ink that can be seen with a blacklight.

In a darkened room, under a blacklight (i.e., a UV light source), the Seal reveals two anti-counterfeiting measures.

The first measure relates to the serial number... under UV lighting, the numerical part (i.e., the last six digits) of the serial number appears black, while the letters part (i.e., the first two characters) still appear red... a neat trick.

The second measure appears in the center of the Seal, positioned directly above the serial number. Under UV light, it glows as a faint pinkish watermark. The image density is extremely light, as you would expect with a watermark. However, if you spend enough time squinting at it, you will see it is, in fact, the Cuban Republic Coat of Arms (i.e., the same Shield which is also pictured in the oval on the left side of the Seal and printed in green).

Is this on each individual cigar or on the box itself? Either way, good info.
