Hi friends,
I just thought I share a little project of mine with you guys. I have always been a friend of the vintage 5513 with white gold surrounded indices and also the 14060 Sub without engraved rehaut - these two watches belong to the most beautiful ones ever made. Unfortunately, both models are hard to find and those modern no-date Rolex watches available have many flaws like a solid end link bracelett, missing lug holes and many more...
So what I did is, I bought a vintage 1680 from Narikaa, replaced the crystal with a T-19 one without magnification (abvailable for EU based modders from http://stores.ebay.de/Glycine-Watch-24-Uhrenzubehor), changed the movement as the hands of the 1680 had greenish colour (and the white ones I got did not fit to the movement) and changed the dial with a no-date dial I had left from another (unsuccessful) project. The crystal needed a lot of sanding for the crytal height but did fit perfectly well. Now here is the result:
On the left you see the 1680 (photo taken from narikaas photo gallery) and on the right the current status of my project (sorry for the bad pic). Of course this watch is not quite a 5513 (wrong bezel and perl) and not a good 14060 (wrong crystal), still, I am already loving it as the combination of gold indices and plastic crystal really rocks... Crown guards are not that bad as well...
work to do:
- change the bezel (perl)
- get another bracelet as the one used has solid mid links and not the right clasp
- drill lug-holes and replace spring bars
- not sure if I give it a more vintage style look???
Thanks to all tutorial writers (e.g. "Vintage Submariner crystal change" from cybee and "How to Replace an Asian 21j Movement" from Francisco) giving me the information and courage to try this out,
Please let me know what you think! And if anyone has got a good deal (vintage bezel, hollow mid and endlink bracelet, a good submariner clasp or anything this watch could benefit from) feel free to let me know ;-)
